This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Vacancies may be available in each listed location. As a Natural Resource Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Support natural resource management actions related to the following: Endangered Species Act (ESA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA), including Essential Fish Habitat (EFH), Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), Northern Pacific Halibut Act of 1982 (Halibut Act), and the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (FWCA). Participate in site visits to observe and report on the effectiveness of resource management actions. Assist in routine field-based biological studies, habitat assessments, and environmental monitoring programs. Catalog data relating to the effectiveness of conservation and preservation programs. Support services on watershed, coastal and oceanic issues, scientific research, and policy. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a government vehicle in completion of assigned tasks (e.g., site visits, field research, etc.). This position may require regular travel to research sites and/or performance of duties. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: These positions may have physical requirements. Some of these positions may require performance of duties on board a vessel, other platforms, or in the field for long periods of time. The incumbent may be required to stand for long periods of time, ascend and descend ladders, lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted or assisted, and work in potentially harsh weather conditions on uneven surfaces (i.e., vessels at sea) This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZP-2 is equivalent to the GS-07/09. This position has promotion potential to the ZP-3, which is equivalent to the GS-11/12.
