Global Bonusing Governance (GBG) is part of Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS). GBG is responsible for the creation, governance, and maintenance of merchant industry categories used to reward cardmembers. Named Merchant is a key component of American Express card value propositions driving CM spend and loyalty.  As the business owner and subject matter experts of Industry Bonusing and its processes, GBG plays an important role in enabling our business partners to provide CM and Shareholder value through new and refreshed card products and promotions.  GBG collaborates cross-functionally with enterprise Marketing, US Consumer Services, Global Commercial Services, International Card Services, Global Merchant Services, Technology, Legal, and Compliance teams among others to ensure that we can fulfil accurately on the customer promise.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Analyst, Named Merchant Governance, will support the governance, validation, and maintenance of named merchant eligibility across Card Member rewards and benefits, product benefits, and promotional offers. This role is responsible for ensuring merchants are accurately included or excluded based on established business guidelines, delivering a consistent customer experience while maintaining strong controls and governance standards.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Named Merchant Process governance and eligibility criteria.
  • Review, validate, and maintain named merchant inclusion and exclusion decisions in accordance with established business rules and governance standards.
  • Collaborate with product, technology, and bot automation teams to onboard new merchants, optimize governance processes, and drive automation solutions that enhance operational efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Develop reporting, dashboards, and performance metrics to support governance activities and business decision-making.
  • Leverage analytics, AI, and automation opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and governance processes.
  • Communicate insights, recommendations, and business impacts through effective data storytelling and executive-ready presentations.
  • Support audits, controls, and compliance activities related to merchant eligibility and rewards governance.
  • Drive continuous process improvements to enhance scalability, accuracy, and operational effectiveness.
  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in analytics, reporting, data validation, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with merchant data, payments, rewards, or financial services. 
  • Experience working with data tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, Power BI); Python or automation skills are a strong plus 
  • Experience driving process transformation with a strong governance, controls, and compliance mindset. 
  • Ability to identify trends, solve business problems, and deliver actionable insights. 
  • Experience partnering with product, technology, and automation teams to deliver scalable solutions. 
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders. 
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Demonstrates Blue Box Values through collaboration, inclusion, respect, empathy, and teamwork.
