About the role and team
Uber is seeking a visionary, highly strategic Director of Global Labor Relations to architect, build, and execute our first-ever unified global labor and works council strategy. We are shifting from a decentralized, country-by-country reactive model to a centralized, proactive global governance framework.
In this role, you will lead a dedicated team of regional labor experts based across EMEA and LatAm, transforming local operations into a cohesive global program. You will take an enterprise-wide view, stepping back to establish data-informed benchmarks, repeatable processes, and scalable frameworks that enable Uber to execute organizational change with speed and consistency.
As a key partner to Employment Legal and senior People leadership, you will navigate complex risk environments with a commercial mindset. You will balance local regulatory compliance with Uber's evolving risk appetite, helping the business make firm, swift, and highly strategic labor decisions.
What you’ll do
- Global Strategy & Governance: Architect a unified, proactive global labor relations posture to enhance the current ad-hoc model.
- Labor & Works Council Management: Oversee complex negotiations and build proactive engagement mechanisms with unions and works councils to accelerate organizational change.
- Strategic Risk & Legal Partnership: Partner with Employment Legal to assess systemic labor risks, optimize outside counsel spend, and balance compliance with business velocity.
- Leadership & Cross-Functional Advisory: Provide predictive labor analytics and strategic counsel to leaders across our partner teams (e.g. People, Legal, Business) all while staying ahead of evolving global labor dynamics.
- Team Leadership: Oversee and develop the international team of regional labor specialists across EMEA and LatAm.
Basic Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in labor relations, industrial relations, or employment law within a high-growth, complex multinational corporation.
- Proven track record of successfully building and leading a global labor relations function, with direct experience navigating works councils and labor syndicates across multiple regions..
- Demonstrated experience leading labor strategies through major corporate milestones, including scaled organizational transformations, cross-border M&A integrations, and restructurings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent international law degree with a specialization in labor and employment law is highly preferred.
- Experience thriving within resource-constrained, fast-paced environments (e.g., tech or complex logistics sectors) where decision-making cycles are measured in days rather than months.
- Proven ability to influence executive-level stakeholders (VP/SVP) and confidently defend strategic viewpoints, backed by data and industry benchmarks.
For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $231,000 per year - USD $257,000 per year.
You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
