Overview
Overview:
The Senior Release Engineer is the primary technical owner of the end-to-end release execution lifecycle for the HealthRules® Payer product line. This role transforms an approved payload into validated, customer-ready maintenance releases by owning every stage of the mechanics process: branch preparation, regression coordination, distribution synchronization, and final release delivery. The Senior Release Engineer operates with a high degree of independence and judgment, partnering closely with Engineering, QA, DevOps, Professional Services, Documentation, and Customer Success teams across US and India Standard Time (IST) time zones to drive every release to successful completion on schedule. This role also serves as the primary technical authority within the Change Control Board process, ensuring all release decisions are grounded in accurate version, branch, and compatibility data.
Day-to-Day Operational Responsibilities
The Senior Release Engineer maintains continuous awareness of all active release cycles and responds proactively to emerging issues throughout the workday.
- Monitor Microsoft Teams release channels (MR group chat, Release-Doc team chat, Release-UI team chat) and email throughout the workday; provide timely responses to engineering, QA, and stakeholder requests.
- Respond to messages in the MR group chat that require a response from the release team without delay; address time-sensitive communications immediately and do not allow messages to go unacknowledged during active release windows.
- Review Jira ticket statuses multiple times daily as a Code Freeze checkpoint; proactively engage developers and scrum teams when tickets are at risk of missing Code Freeze.
- Monitor GitHub Actions commit jobs and Jenkins commit jobs for all required products; coordinate resolution of build failures in the relevant Teams channels.
- Monitor regression job status throughout the day; review failure logs and engage the appropriate engineering or QA contacts to drive timely dispositions.
- Use the distro sync tool to confirm artifact alignment as release day approaches; resolve sync issues before the time constraint window closes.
- Serve as an active participant in MR stand-ups and Release Readiness calls.
- Maintain and update the CCB Confluence compatibility page to reflect the latest active release landscape; keep it in sync with Jira data.
- Notify the Customer Success Management (CSM) team of any changes affecting customer-specific tickets, branch information, Custom Code Certification scope, or compatibility questions.
Release Backup Coverage and Knowledge Transfer
The Senior Release Engineer is responsible for ensuring continuity of release execution during planned and unplanned absences. The role is expected to maintain documented, transferable process knowledge and to cross-train the Release Coordinator to perform distribution steps when needed.
- Document all release mechanics steps and maintain them in Confluence as the authoritative How-To reference for all products (Payor, Connector Classic, CPrime, Enrollment, Provider Directory).
- Cross-train the Release Coordinator on release distribution execution to ensure backup coverage is available during absences.
- Provide timely handoff information when PTO or leave is planned, including active release status, open regression dispositions, and any in-flight distro sync issues.
