DCC/CDC Facility Maintenance & Support Services - Sudbury 

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald’s Facilities Maintenance team is seeking a Building Operator / Janitorial & Grounds Caretaker to support the operation, maintenance, cleanliness, and appearance of the facility and surrounding property.

The role includes building maintenance, janitorial services, landscaping, and seasonal snow removal duties.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Operations and Maintenance

• Conduct routine building and property inspections.
• Complete preventive and demand maintenance, including filter changes, belt replacements, lubrication, equipment inspections, and utility room cleaning.
• Monitor and assist with the operation and maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BAS, life safety, pumps, generators, boilers, and related building systems.
• Perform minor repairs, including clearing drains, replacing faucets and lamps, resetting breakers, and replacing small pumps or motors.
• Respond to alarms, service requests, and equipment deficiencies promptly.
• Record completed work in the customer’s maintenance management system.
• Coordinate subcontractors and maintain an inventory of supplies and materials.
• Perform janitorial, landscaping, groundskeeping, and seasonal maintenance duties as required.
• Cut grass, trim vegetation, edge walkways, and maintain trees, shrubs, fence lines, and exterior grounds.
• Remove leaves, branches, litter, and other debris.
• Plow entrances, walkways, gates, and emergency exits.
• Apply salt or other approved de-icing materials and monitor changing weather conditions.
• Operate landscaping and snow removal equipment safely.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Three to five years of experience in building operations, facilities maintenance, janitorial services, landscaping, or a combination of these areas.
• Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, BAS, and general building maintenance.
• Relevant technical, facilities, custodial, or building operations training is considered an asset.
• Previous landscaping and snow removal experience is considered an asset.

SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to safely operate maintenance, landscaping, and snow removal equipment.
• Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and respond to changing operational needs.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, in confined spaces, and at heights.
• Ability to lift up to 30 kg.
• Valid Ontario G driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance, including a five-year background check.

The expected salary range for this role is determined in accordance with the union collective agreement
