Position Summary
The CNC Machinist Level III is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC and manual machining equipment while serving as a technical resource for the team. This role trains and mentors Level I and II operators, supports continuous improvement initiatives, maintains ITT Quick Change setup software and tooling, and ensures a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. The CNC Machinist Level III is expected to deliver high-quality machining results while contributing to process improvements and operational excellence.
Essential Responsibilities
- Will be required to train Level I and II operators on running and offsets CNC machines, gear cutters and other manual machines.
- Expected to contribute ideas for continuous improvement for setups and processes.
- Must be familiar with and maintain ITT Quick change setup software.
- Must be proficient with quick change tooling.
- Must keep their work area clean, wipe down each day and maintain all setup tooling in the right holders.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Must be able to read, write and understand English, perform simple shop math calculations, and follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Must have general computer experience.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer services. This includes meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Mathematics- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications. Must be able to comprehend the meaning of the calculation. (pass Level II test)
- Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, and general maintenance.
- Production and Processes - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.
- Must be able to set up and operate a variety of CNC machines such as lathes, mills, and mill turns.
- Operation Monitoring - Watching machine gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working and aligned properly.
- Critical Thinking- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
- Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Coordination- Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
- Must be capable of working within tolerances of .0002" in a high-pressure, fast-paced, quality- oriented environment.
- Knowledge of all machines measuring equipment and their use.
- Ability to lift 35lbs frequently.
- Minimum 2 years CNC machine shop experience as a machinist operating CNC machine.
- Lean experience in setups and mistake proofing preferred.
- High School diploma or GED or trade school certification.
