POSITION OVERVIEW:
Fortera is seeking Plant Operators for its computer-controlled pilot plant in Redding, California. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team responsible for operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuously improving a first-of-its-kind industrial process.
Previous plant operations experience is preferred but not required. We welcome candidates who demonstrate strong learning ability, mechanical aptitude, sound judgment, curiosity, and a commitment to safe work practices. Experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, maintenance, construction, commissioning, utilities, or other hands-on industrial environments is highly valued.
Plant Operators will receive the training necessary to operate the facility safely, reliably, and efficiently. Responsibilities include monitoring computer-controlled equipment, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), responding appropriately to changing process conditions, conducting inspections, supporting maintenance and troubleshooting activities, and helping improve the plant as the technology continues to develop.
Because this is a pilot facility, operating processes and equipment will continue to evolve. Successful candidates must be adaptable and willing to identify opportunities for improvement, help develop and document new operating procedures, and support the construction or modification of future processes. The ideal candidate is dependable, works effectively with others, communicates respectfully, shares knowledge, accepts constructive feedback, and contributes to a positive and productive team environment.
The facility may operate 24 hours per day. Plant Operators must be able to work rotating schedules consisting of either 10-hour or 12-hour shifts. Schedules may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime and may change based on production schedules and business needs. Operators must be able to evaluate process conditions, make sound decisions within established authority, and consistently comply with all safety procedures.
As Fortera expands and develops additional facilities, opportunities may arise for Plant Operators to support construction, commissioning, training, and plant start-up activities at future locations. These assignments may require increased travel.
A willingness to relocate permanently from Redding to a future Fortera operating location is preferred but not required. Because future facilities will benefit from experienced pilot plant personnel, a candidate’s willingness and ability to travel and relocate may be considered in hiring decisions.
This position reports directly to the Senior Plant Engineer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Monitor and interpret process data and take appropriate corrective actions within established procedures.
- Ensure assigned equipment is maintained, clean, safe, and in proper working order.

- Support maintenance activities during normal operations and planned shutdowns.
- Follow all company policies and applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Develop and maintain expertise in Fortera's proprietary process technology and operating procedures.
- Contribute to process improvements, operating procedure development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in manufacturing, production, industrial operations, maintenance, construction, commissioning, utilities, or other hands-on industrial environments is strongly preferred. Equivalent experience demonstrating strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safe work practices will also be considered.
- Knowledge of plant operations, maintenance, and electrical systems is preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to working safely and following company policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and assist co-workers and supervisors as needed.
