Automation Engineer
Overview
The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automation solutions that drive operational excellence, reduce manual effort, and improve service reliability across MC&O. This role leverages software engineering, automation technologies, data analysis, and modern infrastructure practices to automate operational workflows, monitoring, reporting, and system integrations.
The engineer will collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Support teams to identify automation opportunities, streamline processes, and build scalable solutions that enhance performance, resilience, security, and efficiency. Success in this role is measured through measurable improvements in operational effectiveness, automation adoption, quality, reliability, and reduction of manual intervention.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions that eliminate manual effort and improve operational efficiency.
• Develop scripts, queries, integrations, and lightweight applications using technologies such as Python, SQL, and other automation platforms.
• Automate operational workflows, monitoring processes, reporting functions, and system integrations through APIs and internal tools.
• Analyze operational data and create automated reporting and insights that support business decision-making.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation practices to improve consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Support cloud-based and distributed technology environments through automation and operational tooling.
• Contribute to CI/CD automation and deployment processes that improve speed, quality, and reliability.
• Apply software engineering best practices including testing, documentation, version control, and operational support.
• Partner with stakeholders to identify operational pain points and transform repetitive activities into scalable solutions.
• Measure and report automation outcomes, focusing on efficiency gains, service reliability improvements, and operational quality.

They have experience building automations, working with operational data, and integrating systems using modern development and infrastructure practices.

• Has experience developing automation solutions using one or more scripting or programming languages.
• Possesses strong SQL and data analysis skills for reporting, workflow optimization, and operational insights.
• Understands cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and modern DevOps practices.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. **Pay Ranges**
O'Fallon, Missouri: $96,000 - $163,000 USD
