This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Performs direct medical care in their specialty and assists the Chief of Staff in supervising the Medicine Service. The selected Chief must be Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Selectee will supervise other Physicians, APRNS, and administrative staff within the section, along with the following: Functions in lead management roles within Medicine Services. Each member of staff has a reporting relationship, through their line supervisor, to the service chief. Will develop and implement measures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the designated areas of responsibility. Grows and executes a Medicine Service Business Plan for chief of staff of the medical center. Produces annual budgetary reports based on quality activity and financial information and projections. Is accountable for resources used, directly and indirectly. Provides directions for the following: Quality Improvement: Directs continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of care provided by the Medicine Service. Strategic Partnerships: Promotes good working environments with VHA facility program directors and service line chiefs. Collaborations with VA Leadership: Provides strategic clinical input and ensures effective advice to the service line ACOS, service line chief, and executive team. Education: Plans and directs the educational and clinical experience of any potential trainees, including interns and postdocs, medical students, residents, and fellows, or other disciplines assigned to the Medicine Service. Supports clinical training and continuing professional development. Human Resource Management: Participates in the selection of Medicine Service team members, oversees recruitment of permanent and temporary staff. Provides direct line supervision to program coordinator/specialist for Medicine Service. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Builds, demonstrates, and sustains exemplary relationships, resolving conflict, handling negotiation effectively, and developing collaborative working relationships. Displays empathy and empowers others through written and oral communication skills. Customer Service: Integrates excellent customer service, including patient satisfaction and stakeholder support, into management plans. The selectee is a customer-driven executive, who enhances internal and external customer satisfaction, handles complaints effectively and promptly, ensures a customer-centered focus in direction and daily work, uses customer feedback in planning and providing products and services, and encourages subordinates to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, On-Call hours are NOT required.
