We are seeking a Principal, Tech BD for Fuse Japan to lead technical business development and partner innovation across Japan's strategic telco and platform partnerships. This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for bridging Fuse's product and technology capabilities with Japan's distribution partners—driving adoption of new product innovations, technical integrations, and commercial constructs that unlock subscriber growth and long-term value.
As part of this role, you will own the technical strategy and execution for how Amazon's subscription services (Prime, Prime Video) are distributed and grown through partners in Japan. You will serve as the connective tissue between Fuse Product & Tech, Prime, Prime Video, Payments, and Japan's largest telco partners, influencing roadmaps and driving adoption of capabilities. This role requires deep technical fluency combined with business development acumen to identify high-impact product partnership opportunities, define requirements, and drive them from concept through launch.

Key job responsibilities
• Define and own the Japan Fuse technical BD strategy, identifying product and technology innovations that drive subscriber growth, engagement, and partner value across telcos, and future partners.
• Serve as the primary technical interlocutor with Japan's telco partners—translating partner needs into product requirements and influencing internal product/tech teams to prioritize Japan-specific capabilities.
• Drive adoption of Fuse service innovations with Japanese partners, navigating Japan-specific constraints such as proof of possession checks, phone number recycling protections, and local data-sharing requirements.
• Align the Japan Fuse technical roadmap in lockstep with global Fuse Product & Tech leadership and WW Fuse BD, ensuring Japan's priorities are reflected in worldwide product investments while capitalizing on Japan-specific opportunities.
• Pioneer new commercial and technical constructs—such as tiered offers, and partner service distribution that can scale globally.
• Lead complex, multi-party negotiations at the intersection of product, technology, and commercial terms with Japan's largest telcos and platform partners.
• Develop and own the Japan partner pipeline for product-led growth opportunities, including new verticals and deal structures
Drive expansion of existing partnerships by identifying and validating new product use cases.
• Partner with Fuse Tech, Prime Tech, Stores, CorpBD, Payments, Identity Services, and Prime Video to ensure partner integrations are delivered on time, unblocking Japan-specific technical dependencies
• Identify and implement scalable solutions—leveraging automation, GenAI tools, and operational playbooks—to accelerate partner launches and sustaining growth programs.

A day in the life
A day in this role would involve working closely with Japan's largest telco partners to identify and unblock product-led growth opportunities, collaborating with internal product and tech teams to translate partner requirements into actionable roadmap items, deep-diving into technical integration performance, and influencing engineering teams to deliver capabilities critical to Japan's partnerships. You will toggle between strategic planning (e.g., scoping a new integration with partner) and tactical execution (e.g., driving a proof of possession tech approach to meet a partner launch deadline).

Business Development group enables partners across multiple verticals to resell our consumer service offerings including Prime and more. Our partners leverage Amazon's services to drive differentiated offerings for their customers across the globe.

Basic qualifications

- 7+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
- 8+ years of solving problems with technology in the Media & Entertainment Industry experience
- Experience in Go-To-Market, Business Development, Sales, or Consulting

Preferred qualifications

- Experience as a founder or executive focused on related segments, or as a practice leader or business unit owner
- Experience selling to Fortune 1000 or Global 2000 organizations
- MBA
- Experience working in a matrixed environment, influencing strategy, and achieving goals by working across the organization
- Speak, write, and read fluently in Japanese at a business level or above (N1+)
