This Training Instructor position is in Environmental Management services at the VA Medical Center, located at the Edward P. Boland VAMC Leeds, MA location. The incumbent serves as a Training Instructor providing on-going training service and instruction for EMS's Training Program. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Develops and maintains training materials and curricula for multiple EMS courses to be presented to EMS staff. Makes recommendations for changes that involve substantive rather than procedural matters and obtains and adapts current instructional material. Evaluates training courses for EMS's training programs and works closely with senior specialists to evaluate courses to enhance EMS's overall training program. Conducts training studies and analyses in EMS's functional specialties or subject matter areas. Coordinates EMS training activities related to assignments and projects to develop and implement training courses or course materials. Maintains liaison with training program instructors and training specialists to obtain information for projects and activities. Collaborates in healthcare committees and professional studies to advance hospital and VISN strategic plan initiatives. Consults with external subject matter experts to analyze unusual situations and develops process improvement solutions. Develops comprehensive training courses and modalities on all aspects of healthcare environmental services. Maintains an updated library of training materials, educational curricula, and the Environmental Care procedure manual. Actively involved in evaluating regulatory and accreditation standards and designing educational initiatives to support compliance efforts. Develops partnerships with stakeholders and community partners to increase program effectiveness and availability. Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs and consistently revises and updates content, instructional materials, and delivery methods to enhance learning. Mentors staff on professional and career development. Designs methods for evaluation of learning activities and analyzes data to make changes to educational activities. Validates overall training effectiveness and quality assurance. Completes Environmental Management quality assurance studies to monitor employee competency and monitors completed and deficient training and educational comprehension reviews. Conducts literature-based research on emerging pathogens, technology, theories, infection control policies, and best practices. Serves as technical advisor/instructor for applying intensive practical knowledge of sanitation and disinfection application within health care environment. Provides instruction covering a wide variety of topics in well-established areas of hospital housekeeping and other EMS-related subject-matter fields. Makes necessary modifications to training courses for well-established programs. Trains employees within EMS, and provides instruction, and modifies course content with an emphasis on biological cleanliness and infection control. Provides curriculum instruction and simulation laboratory training for EMS staff. Develops the training schedule plan for each fiscal year. Participates in the implementation of hospital and clinic-wide training programs. Participates on committees relative to sanitation and waste management operations. Other duties as assigned. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level (GS-09) without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: 8:00a- 4:30p, Monday- Friday Virtual: This is not a virtual position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Selectee required to serve one year supervisory/managerial probationary period. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment.
