Accountabilities:

    • Provide legal counsel on a wide range of U.S. federal, state, and Canadian labor and employment laws, including employee relations, discrimination, workplace accommodations, wage and hour matters, leave regulations, and compliance requirements.
    • Manage employment-related litigation, administrative claims, government investigations, and regulatory proceedings while coordinating with external legal counsel as needed.
    • Review, develop, and update employment policies, procedures, and legal documentation to ensure ongoing compliance with evolving legislation and regulatory standards.
    • Partner closely with Human Resources and business leaders to proactively identify legal risks, support employee relations matters, and develop practical, business-focused legal solutions.
    • Monitor legislative developments, assess their business impact, and provide timely recommendations to leadership.
    • Oversee litigation reporting, budgeting, legal tracking processes, and support paralegal activities related to labor and employment matters.
    • Contribute to strategic projects and cross-functional initiatives requiring labor and employment legal expertise while promoting strong governance and risk management practices.
    • Requirements

      • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
      • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with membership in good standing.
      • 5–10 years of labor and employment law experience, ideally combining private practice and in-house legal experience.
      • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, Title VII, EEOC regulations, OFCCP requirements, and related federal and state employment legislation.
      • Familiarity with Canadian federal and provincial employment laws, including ESA, HRA, and AODA.
      • Demonstrated experience managing employment litigation, administrative proceedings, and regulatory investigations.
      • Excellent legal research, analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders and external legal partners.
      • Strong organizational skills with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
      • Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 5–33%).
