This position is part of the Credit and Fraud Risk organization (CFR), focused on credit risk controls. The role brings an exciting opportunity to define risk management policies for American Express portfolios. This team supports the success of American Express through innovative solutions that help identify and mitigate credit risk throughout the customer lifecycle. The role is highly visible and will require strong collaboration across a variety of functions, including but not limited to Risk, Servicing, Decision Science, Legal, and Compliance, to develop best in class strategies and capabilities that support our customers.  

Professionals in CFR leverage advanced quantitative expertise to drive disciplined risk decisions across the business cycle. The team is responsible for managing write-offs, evaluating risk trade-offs, and delivering insights that support outstanding customer experience and strong business performance. Success in this role requires deep analytical expertise, experience working with large and complex datasets, and the ability to translate data into actionable business insights. 

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of relevant work experience, or master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, or Computer Science. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into strategic insights. 

  • Proficiency in handling large datasets using SQL, Python, or a similar programming language. 

  • Demonstrated blend of analytical expertise, process improvement skills, and collaborative relationship-building. 

  • Ability to think strategically and apply quantitative methods and business acumen to drive meaningful outcomes. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to clarity and precision. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Advanced degree preferred but not required, given a suitable combination of formal education and experience. 

  • Prior experience in credit or fraud risk management with a solid understanding of the credit lifecycle. 

  • Familiarity with regulatory and audit frameworks related to credit risk governance. 

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools is a plus. 

 

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
