Field Project Manager - Security Systems
Join the Johnson Controls team and help deliver security solutions that support safer, smarter, and more sustainable buildings. You will work with a collaborative group committed to quality, safety, and strong customer outcomes, while developing your skills through meaningful project work and ongoing learning opportunities.
Role Overview
As the on-site project leader, you will plan, coordinate, implement, and complete security system projects for assigned customers. This role combines technical execution, field leadership, and financial accountability across hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, commissioning, closeout, and warranty support. You will help ensure each project is delivered safely, on time, within scope, and with accurate financial results.
Key Responsibilities
Lead assigned projects from kickoff through closeout as the primary on-site point of contact for customers and project teams.
Coordinate hardware design, system programming, installation activities, system and network commissioning, and project closeout.
Manage project costs, billings, collections, and change orders to support accurate financial performance and profitability.
Communicate clearly with customers throughout all project phases and address technical and business-related issues as they arise.
Direct subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative support as needed to keep work moving forward.
Oversee warranty execution, project documentation, as-builts, commissioning records, and site-specific training for owners and operators.
Ensure all work meets Johnson Controls standards, AHJ requirements, applicable local, state, and federal regulations, and jobsite safety expectations.
Maintain productive relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors while supporting job progress meetings and project reporting.
How You Will Do It
Work with a strong sense of ownership, ethics, and safety while keeping the customer experience and project outcomes in focus.
Use established standards to complete installation design and software programming, and provide clear information that helps customers and field teams understand system operation.
Track scope changes carefully by reviewing bulletins, field directives, and schedule impacts, then pursue change orders where additional work is identified.
Use the web-based procurement process to manage materials selection, ordering, budget, and delivery schedules for assigned projects.
Gather pricing and availability from vendors and subcontractors, compare bids when needed, and oversee subcontractor payment and billing activities.
Coordinate device locations and installation details on site so panels and field devices are placed and installed to Johnson Controls standards.
Lead loading, device verification, and commissioning to confirm system functionality, resolve issues, and complete accurate documentation.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical support to technicians, installers, designers, and subcontractors so delegated work is completed accurately, on time, and within budget.
Report project status and forecasts consistently so management has clear visibility into revenue, costs, gross margin, and schedule performance.
Support continuous improvement by applying sound business practices that strengthen cash flow, profitability, and execution quality.
