As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Banking -Wholesale Loan Technology, you are part of an agile team that works to enhance, design, and deliver the software components of the firm’s state-of-the-art technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As an emerging member of a software engineering team, you execute software solutions through the design, development, and technical troubleshooting of multiple components within a technical product, application, or system, while gaining the skills and experience needed to grow within your role.
Job responsibilities
- Administer and support Oracle databases in production and non-production environments, including Oracle RAC operations and coordination of patching/upgrades.
- Manage Oracle RAC availability and performance (clusterware/services, failover readiness, workload distribution).
- Provide DBA support for PostgreSQL (routine maintenance, backup/restore, replication/HA concepts).
- Develop and maintain PL/SQL objects (packages, procedures, functions, triggers) and optimize SQL/PLSQL performance.
- Plan and execute data migration activities, including validation/reconciliation, cutover, and rollback planning.
- Lead performance tuning for Oracle RAC and PostgreSQL (query optimization, indexing, statistics management).
- Perform deep-dive diagnostics using Oracle tools (AWR/ASH, ADDM, SQL Monitor, Explain Plan) and PostgreSQL tools (EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, pg_stat, VACUUM/autovacuum).
- Identify and remediate bottlenecks across database, OS, storage, and network layers via configuration and schema/index changes.
- Define and maintain performance baselines, monitoring/alert thresholds, and capacity forecasts; produce periodic health reports.
- Implement and maintain backup/recovery strategies, HA/DR readiness, and operational runbooks.
- Support incident/problem management and collaborate with application, infrastructure, and release/change teams to deliver stable deployments and secure operations.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Demonstrated hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA, including:
- Oracle RAC administration (Clusterware; ASM)
- Backup and recovery (e.g., RMAN), patching, upgrades, and performance tuning (e.g., AWR/ASH)
- Strong PL/SQL development capability (beyond administration), including performance-oriented design and refactoring.
- Hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience, including operational maintenance and recovery.
- Proven expertise in Oracle performance tuning, including RAC-specific considerations (e.g., service placement, interconnect behavior, global cache waits, node/load distribution).
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning, including planner behavior, indexing, vacuum/analyze strategy, and connection management.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with data validation and reconciliation techniques.
- Demonstrated delivery of data migrations (e.g., Oracle-to-Oracle, Oracle-to-PostgreSQL, and/or platform modernization).
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Loan IQ production support or implementation experience (schema familiarity, batch interfaces, upgrades/migrations).
- Experience with migration and replication tooling (e.g., GoldenGate, Data Pump, logical replication, ETL tools) and cutover coordination.
- Scripting/automation skills (e.g., Shell, Python) and exposure to monitoring/observability tooling.
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and storage concepts.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management).
