Revolution Medicines is a late-stage clinical oncology company developing novel targeted therapies for patients with RAS-addicted cancers. The Opportunity:
The Senior Director, Head of Transactions and Partnering is a senior leader within the Business Development organization responsible for leading the evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and execution of strategic business development transactions that support Revolution Medicines' corporate and portfolio objectives.
Reporting to the Vice President, Business Development, this individual serves as the company's transaction lead and principal negotiator across a broad range of strategic partnerships, including licensing, collaboration, co-development, alliance, option, platform, and other business development agreements. The role partners closely with Business Development leadership and cross-functional stakeholders across Research, Development, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Intellectual Property, and Executive Management to advance high-priority opportunities from initial assessment through successful execution.
The successful candidate will bring deep transaction expertise, strong business judgment, and exceptional negotiation skills, coupled with the ability to lead complex cross-functional teams and drive alignment among diverse stakeholders. This individual will play a critical role in enabling Revolution Medicines to establish and execute strategic partnerships that accelerate innovation, expand capabilities, and create long-term value for patients and shareholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Transaction Leadership and Execution

Lead the company's transaction activities, advancing prioritized opportunities from evaluation through execution.

Serve as the transaction lead for strategic business development opportunities, developing negotiation strategies and execution plans that maximize value and support corporate objectives.

Structure, negotiate, and execute a broad range of transactions, including licensing, collaboration, co-development, alliance, option, platform, and other strategic agreements.

Lead transaction processes from initial engagement through confidentiality agreements, term sheet development, definitive agreement negotiation, and transaction closing.

Develop creative transaction structures that appropriately balance strategic objectives, economics, operational considerations, and risk allocation.

Identify transaction risks and develop practical solutions that facilitate successful deal execution while protecting the company's interests.
Negotiation and Deal Structuring

Serve as Revolution Medicines' lead negotiator for strategic business development transactions.

Partner closely with finance and legal/transaction counsel to develop transaction structures, review and negotiate definitive agreements, and drive successful deal execution.

Collaborate with FP&A, commercial, competitive intelligence, business development team members to evaluate transaction economics, valuation analyses, and investment considerations.

Lead negotiations involving scientific, clinical, commercial, intellectual property, operational, and financial elements of complex transactions.

Develop and execute negotiation strategies that maximize value creation while preserving long-term partnership success.
Cross-Functional Transaction Management

Lead cross-functional transaction teams, aligning scientific, clinical, commercial, financial, intellectual property, and legal stakeholders throughout the evaluation and negotiation process.

Partner closely with the Search & Evaluation function within BD to coordinate diligence activities and ensure comprehensive assessment of strategic, scientific, operational, legal, and financial considerations.

Drive stakeholder alignment and facilitate efficient decision-making across multiple functions and organizational levels.

Establish clear transaction plans, governance processes, timelines, and accountability to support successful execution.

Collaborate with Alliance Management function in negotiations and structuring phase to enable a seamless handoff to operationalizing relationships after agreement execution.
Governance and Executive Decision Support

Drive opportunities from initial contact all the way through to executive decision-making, including triaging, evaluation, identification of internal champion(s) and cultivation of internal support, and navigation of transaction governance processes.

Prepare and present transaction recommendations, strategic assessments, valuation analyses, and key negotiation considerations to senior leadership.

Clearly communicate strategic rationale, transaction economics, risks, alternatives, and key deal terms to support informed decision-making.

Support Business Development leadership in evaluating strategic opportunities and developing recommendations for executive review.
External Relationship Management

Build and maintain senior-level relationships across the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic, and investment communities.

Represent Revolution Medicines in partnering discussions, industry conferences, and external business development engagements.

Support opportunity sourcing and relationship development efforts in partnership with Business Development leadership.

Establish a strong external network that enhances the company's access to innovative science, technologies, and strategic opportunities.

Contribute to the continued development of business development processes, transaction governance practices, and execution capabilities.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

Advanced degree in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, business, or a related field; MBA, PhD, MD, PharmD preferred.

12+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical business development, transactions, corporate strategy, or related disciplines.

Demonstrated track record of leading and executing multiple complex strategic transactions, including licensing, collaboration, co-development, alliance, acquisition, or other business development agreements.

Significant experience independently leading negotiations from initial engagement through definitive agreement execution.

Deep understanding of biopharmaceutical drug development, transaction structures, valuation methodologies, and deal economics.

Strong understanding of intellectual property considerations, licensing frameworks, and strategic partnership models within the life sciences industry.

Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Outstanding communication, presentation, and influencing capabilities, including experience presenting recommendations to senior executives.
