Accountabilities:
- Build and enhance scalable systems that enable ingestion, preservation, search, and retrieval of high-volume public records in partnership with the National Archives and Records Administration programs
- Develop fullstack features across backend services and frontend interfaces using modern frameworks and cloud-native architecture
- Design and implement APIs, services, and user interfaces with a strong focus on accessibility, including Section 508 compliance
- Build secure applications aligned with federal cybersecurity standards and protect against common vulnerabilities
- Contribute to system design using cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and frameworks like Spring-based backend services and Angular-based frontends
- Improve system reliability, performance, and scalability across distributed architectures, databases, and search layers
- Participate in agile development practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and API-first design
- Mentor engineers and contribute to team-wide engineering best practices and technical knowledge sharing
- 8+ years of experience building and operating scalable, production-grade software systems
- Strong experience delivering fullstack applications across backend and frontend layers in cloud-native environments
- Proficiency in Java with deep understanding of concurrency, multithreading, and backend architecture
- Experience with Spring-based backend services (e.g., Spring Boot) and modern frontend frameworks such as Angular
- Strong SQL expertise (MySQL, Aurora, or similar) with focus on performance and transactional integrity
- Experience with search or caching systems (e.g., OpenSearch, Redis) and NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code practices (e.g., Docker, Terraform)
- Understanding of secure software development, authentication principles, and system vulnerability mitigation
- Ability to design systems with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and user-centered outcomes
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across product, design, and engineering teams
- U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract and security requirements, with successful background check completion
- Competitive salary range for Staff-level engineers: $170,000 – $203,000, depending on experience and location
