Accountabilities:

    The Sr. Accountant - Financial Reporting will oversee financial reporting activities, support audit processes, and drive improvements across accounting operations. The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while partnering with key stakeholders.

    • Prepare and review financial statements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
    • Lead coordination and execution of external audits, acting as a primary point of contact for audit requests and supporting audit readiness initiatives.
    • Perform operational and financial audits, analyze findings, and develop recommendations to improve processes and controls.
    • Research, interpret, and apply accounting guidance while helping develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
    • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and monthly close deliverables.
    • Analyze balance sheet and income statement fluctuations, identifying trends, variances, and root causes.
    • Support monthly consolidation activities across multiple entities and assist with management reporting packages.
    • Prepare board materials, annual audit reports, and quarterly financial reporting documentation.
    • Lead initiatives focused on improving reporting processes, strengthening controls, and increasing operational efficiency.
    • Support special projects, ad hoc financial analysis, and cross-functional initiatives as needed.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate brings advanced accounting expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and experience managing complex reporting and audit activities. They should be comfortable working independently, communicating with senior stakeholders, and maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced financial environment.

      • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
      • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within financial reporting, audit, or technical accounting functions.
      • Advanced knowledge of US GAAP and/or statutory accounting principles.
      • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading external audit processes.
      • Strong technical accounting research and interpretation skills.
      • Experience reviewing financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly close activities.
      • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data analysis.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
      • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize competing responsibilities, and deliver high-quality results.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with auditors, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
      • Independent, proactive mindset with strong ownership and accountability.
      • Preferred qualifications include:

        • Public accounting audit or assurance experience.
        • Active CPA license or progress toward CPA certification.
        • Experience with statutory reporting requirements.
        • Background in insurance, life, annuity, or related financial services industries.
        • Experience supporting multi-entity reporting structures and audit-readiness initiatives.
