Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Project Director of Math Improvement provides strategic leadership for the Office of Math Improvement and oversees the implementation of the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act. This position advances statewide mathematics achievement by promoting evidence-based instructional practices, monitoring program implementation and outcomes, developing guidance and professional learning resources, and collaborating with educators, administrators, policymakers, vendors, and stakeholders. The Project Director leads office initiatives, supports compliance with statutory requirements, analyzes data to inform decision-making, and fosters cross-functional partnerships to ensure effective, aligned, and impactful mathematics improvement efforts across Oklahoma schools.

Please note: This role requires a consistent, in-person presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and does not offer remote, telecommuting, or hybrid options.

• Knowledge & Expertise: Offer a deep understanding of evidence-based strategies used to teach mathematics across grades K-5; Knowledge of implemented policy related to math improvement nationwide; Engage with stakeholders and external organizations that recommend policy related to math improvement.
• Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act: Monitor the implementation and progress of the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act.
• Planning and Directing Office of Math Improvement Activities: Lead and coordinate office initiatives by delegating responsibilities, providing guidance, and promoting professional growth among team members to achieve program goals.
• Professional Development: Recommend professional development to support the effective implementation and interpretation of assessment types required under the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act; Analyze data to recommend professional development providers that offer evidence-based and outcomes-driven professional learning; Plan, organize, and deliver professional development to support the implementation of the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act and evidence-based strategies used to teach mathematics.
• Vendor Collaboration: Monitor the implementation of a screening instrument used to identify students with mathematics difficulties, including characteristics of dyscalculia.
• Guidance Development: Develop comprehensive guidance resources to effectively support school district administrators and educators in effectively implementing the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate across divisions and offices within the Oklahoma State Department of Education, where possible, to ensure alignment of goals, initiatives, and resources. Coordinate and facilitate meetings with educators, administrators, and stakeholder committees to gather feedback, evaluate systems supporting the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act, and identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Education or a related field; [official transcripts required upon hire];
• Five (5) years of experience in education, including experience teaching mathematics;
• Two (2) years of experience in administrative duties, educational leadership, instructional coaching, or related leadership roles;         
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future;
• Successful completion of a pre-employment background check;
• Must possess a valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office setting based out of: Oliver Hodge Building, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

• Physical Demands include:
  • Ability to stand, reach, and bend 50% of the time;
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, and office telephone 75% of the time;
  • Ascends/descends stairs 25% of the time;
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
• Cognitive Requirements:
  • This role requires clear and accurate communication, strong analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate information and make timely decisions.
  • Sustained focus and attention to detail are essential, along with memory retention of policies, procedures, and facts over various time frames.
  • Adaptability and mental flexibility are also necessary to handle changing information, work conditions, and unexpected challenges.
