Design Manager Job Description - 3 to 5 yrs experince
Position Overview
The Design Manager will lead and oversee the design and development of projects from concept through completion, ensuring alignment with client objectives, brand standards, and project requirements. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple design initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management
Oversee all phases of design projects including concept development, design documentation, coordination, and implementation. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery. Lead design team meetings and coordinate with stakeholders to establish project goals and deliverables.
Design Quality & Standards
Establish and maintain design standards, guidelines, and quality control processes. Review and approve design documentation to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and client requirements. Implement best practices for design excellence and continuous improvement.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as primary design contact for clients and project stakeholders. Present design concepts and solutions effectively to diverse audiences. Build strong client relationships through responsive communication and exceptional service delivery.
Technical Oversight
Provide technical direction on complex design challenges. Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and contractors to resolve design issues. Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and sustainable design practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, or related field. Minimum 3-5 years of progressive design experience. Professional licensure or certification relevant to discipline (e.g., AIA, LEED AP, NCIDQ) preferred.
Required Skills & Competencies
Proficiency in industry-standard design software and tools. Outstanding communication and presentation skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Preferred Experience
Experience in commercial real estate, corporate workplace design, or similar sector. Track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget. Experience with sustainable design principles and certifications. Familiarity with emerging design technologies and digital tools.
Work Environment
This position typically operates in an office environment with site visits as required. May require occasional travel to project sites or client locations. Standard business hours with flexibility for project deadlines.
