Lead Site Reliability Engineer

ROU-Bucharest-Iuliu Maniu BoulevardFull-timePosted Jul 21, 2026

ROLE SUMMARY:

We are hiring a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to establish and lead the reliability engineering practice for LSEG's internal observability platform - and this is a rare opportunity to build it from the ground up!

Our platform brings telemetry, dashboards, alerts, service health, and operational insight into one common experience. We use it to help engineering and service teams detect issues earlier, reduce incident impact, and improve operational reliability across LSEG.

The focus of this role is defining and owning how reliability is practised on the platform team - including the SLO and SLI framework, error budget policy, incident response leadership, and the practices that help user teams approach operational reliability through the platform itself. This is a leadership and design role as much as a hands-on engineering role, and we expect you to work with ambiguity, make principled decisions, and build practices that scale beyond the immediate team.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

Reliability framework and standards:

- Define and own the SLO and SLI framework for the observability platform and the services it supports.

- Set error budget policy and use reliability data to inform engineering prioritisation decisions.

- Build and continuously improve the on-call programme, including rotations, runbooks, escalation paths, and incident playbooks.

- Partner with the Lead Engineer to ensure reliability is designed into the platform, not retrofitted.

- Use the observability platform itself to monitor the platform's own health and service levels.

Incident response and team leadership:

- Lead incident response for the platform, including command, communication, escalation, and post-incident review.

- Drive toil reduction through automation, improved tooling, and better operational patterns.

- Mentor and develop SRE practitioners on the team.

Platform contribution and reporting:

- Provide clear reporting on reliability posture, risk, and improvement trends to engineering and service leadership.

- Contribute to the platform roadmap from a reliability and operational fitness perspective.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

Essential skills and experience:

- Extensive experience in SRE, platform reliability, or equivalent hands-on reliability engineering, including experience in a lead or senior individual contributor position.

- Proven experience designing and implementing SLO and SLI frameworks at enterprise or multi-team scale.

- Deep understanding of distributed systems failure modes, resilience patterns, and blast radius management.

- Experience leading incident response, including command, structured communication, and post-incident review.

- Ability to influence engineering decisions and reliability practices across teams without direct management authority.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills for distributed, cross-timezone teams.

- Experience mentoring or developing other SRE practitioners.

Desirable skills and experience:

- Experience with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, ClickHouse, Cribl, Datadog, BigPanda, Redis, or similar observability and data pipeline technologies.

- Experience establishing a reliability engineering practice in a greenfield or early-stage platform context.

- Familiarity with PromQL, ClickHouse SQL, or equivalent query languages for SLI design and reliability dashboards.

- Experience in a regulated, financial services, or large enterprise technology environment.

WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN:

This is an exceptional opportunity to shape reliability engineering for a strategic platform that will influence how teams across LSEG operate their services!
