Job Description
Operating at LOB-wide scope; sets the vision and technical standards for hyper-scale, elastic distributed systems. Leads architecture and optimization across interdependent platforms, eliminating performance and scalability bottlenecks and advancing innovation in data plane technologies. Engineers fault-tolerant, in-service‑upgradable designs that withstand partitions and network unreliability, establishing SLO‑aligned durability and availability bars for other services. Defines organizational KPIs and telemetry practices; implements advanced dashboards, chaos strategies, and CI/CD-integrated resilience testing; and promotes formal verification and novel replication/synchronization approaches. Provides thought leadership during complex incidents, sets operational readiness and SOP standards, and drives long‑term corrective strategies. Establishes organizational security baselines and remediation programs for multi‑tenant environments, ensures compliance and documentation quality, and leads creation of state‑of‑the‑art automation (IaC) and change strategies enabling safe, automated patching, updates, and rollbacks.
Responsibilities
Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Design & Architecture - System Scalability:Provide visionary leadership in the architecture of highly scalable distributed systems across various businesses, ensuring horizontal and vertical scalability and overall performance, including leveraging distributed state management tools. Resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks to drive significant optimizations and improvements for hyper-scale code and/or systems, leading to industry-leading performance. Define a new set of industry standards for scalability requirements. Design systems across the organization to scale with elasticity (e.g., effectively scaling both up and down). Advocate for innovation and improvements to data plane platforms. Evaluate whether systems are meeting nonfunctional scalability requirements, and proactively anticipate growing business needs across the organization. System Design & Architecture - System Reliability Design:Lead the design and implementation of highly sophisticated fault-tolerant systems across the organization capable of withstanding in-service updates by implementing innovative redundancy, replication, and automatic failover capabilities. Leverage expertise to oversee the design of interdependent systems that effectively handle service disruptions (e.g., network partitions) by prioritizing consistency, availability, or partition tolerance. Lead the optimization and identification of novel and innovative techniques to manage network unreliability. Leverage industry insights to design interdependent systems that are durable and adhere to service level objectives (SLOs), setting new standards for availability and durability of other computing services across the organization.
