This position is located at the Clarksburg VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. as a Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. A highly regulated medical service that provides clinical testing on tissues, blood, urine, and other body fluids to aid in the diagnosis and management of disease. Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens and/or environmental samples using manual or automated techniques and require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Major Duties include but are not limited to: The Hematology/Coagulation Lead CLS would be responsible for leading CLS rotating through the Hematology Department and the day to day functioning of Hematology and Coagulation. Modifies or adapts new methods or techniques to improve or expand services. Develops protocols for performance of tests and evaluation of results. Develops/writes policies and procedures for testing in Hematology/Coagulation. Ensures that laboratory tests and procedures are consistent with accrediting agencies standards and requirements. Recognizes methodology limitations such as linearity, interference, sensitivity, and specificity and considers these when drawing conclusions about the validity of testing results. Performs validation/method verification studies for new systems. Consults with healthcare providers on logical protocol to follow in attempting to confirm the diagnosis or risk assessment of a patient. Provides advisory services to Medical Technicians, CLS, and other specialists.
