Howmet is currently looking for a Mold Prep Operator to join our Hampton Structural Castings (HSC) group in Hampton, Virginia. The available shift hours are 1st shift, M-F 6am-2pm. Training is 1st shift, M-F 6am-2pm.

New Hire Starting Rate: $21.07 p/hr.; After 6 months: $23.41 p/hr.

This position will receive an hourly “shift premium” of $1.00 p/hr. while assigned to an off shift.

Job Summary: The Mold Prep Operator will inspect, disposition, clean, repair, plug, and wrap molds in preparation for casting.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities:

  • Remove molds from dewax line and place on skids using straps and hoists.
  • Inspect molds and identify defects.
  • Disposition molds for continued processing or hold.
  • Clean, plug and repair molds.
  • Cut wrap and wrap molds.
  • Attach pour cups and crucibles.
  • Setup molds on casting trays.
  • Final inspect and logout molds.
  • Determine order of work based on work rules and priority lists.
  • Ability to read and follow the information on work instructions.
  • Record data either manually or by computer as required.
  • Retrieve and put away materials, tools, and supplies and cleanup work area.
  • Fill out maintenance work orders.
  • Take photographs and develop work instructions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     

Basic Qualifications:

  • An application must include a resume and two professional references for review and consideration.
  • This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Applicants must have at least 2 years of continuous work experience or training. Recent high school or college graduates without prior work experience must provide a letter of recommendation.
  • Availability for all shifts (including 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and weekend shift) is necessary. The ability to work overtime and weekends is required as schedules may vary based on operational needs; flexibility is essential.
  • All newly hired and internal candidates who are successfully awarded this position are required to pass a near vision exam utilizing the Tumbling E Chart per ISO 18490.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
