About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE3) to join one of our Kraków engineering squads within Global Money Movement. Depending on team needs at the time of hire, you will join one of three squads: one that builds and operates the platform for securely storing and validating customers' financial instruments and data; one that powers customer accounts and wallets; or one that operates the core platform processing the movement of money across our global payment network.

Our platforms run on AWS and support high-throughput, high-availability services that are critical to Remitly's products and regulatory obligations. You will report to a Kraków-based Engineering Manager.

As a Senior Software Developer, you will lead the design and delivery of cohesive features and product functionality owned by your team. You will operate independently in application design, code refactoring, and system improvements, and you will often be the point of contact for cross-team collaboration and, where relevant, for external banking and payment partners. You will solve complex problems involving multiple constraints and trade-offs — including compliance and data-security requirements — and drive resolution across related teams when needed. You will work on complex projects, leading other engineers to help deliver shared objectives.

You will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend services and APIs for storing, validating, or moving customers' financial data.

  • Break down complex, cross-team features into components that can be delivered in parallel.

  • Drive team-level projects from technical design through production readiness, including compliance and security considerations where relevant.

  • Guide application design decisions and promote long-term maintainability across service boundaries.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate technical debt and operational risks.

  • Improve system scalability, reliability, and performance for high-volume, regulated financial systems.

  • Act as a technical point of contact for cross-team stakeholders and, where relevant, external banking and payment partners.

  • Provide strong code and design reviews and mentor SDE peers.

  • Partner with Product, Operations, and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements, technical risks, and delivery plans.

You have:

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience.

  • Experience using AI throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Kotlin, or Go.

  • Experience designing secure, scalable, and performant distributed systems.

  • Experience operating and improving production systems in a cloud environment such as AWS, including participation in on-call rotations for high-availability, regulated financial services.

  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases, with an understanding of data modeling trade-offs at scale.

  • Experience leading technical design for team-level or cross-team initiatives.

  • Experience growing and mentoring other engineers.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with stakeholders and, where relevant, external banking and payment partners, across time zones.

  • Effective collaboration and B2+ English proficiency.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with DynamoDB or other large-scale NoSQL data stores.

  • Payments/Fintech experience.

  • Experience with PCI-scope systems or other regulated, compliance-sensitive data.

  • Experience designing multi-tenant platform services or shared infrastructure supporting diverse workloads at scale.

  • Experience leading complex initiatives spanning multiple services or teams.

  • Strong understanding of observability, operational excellence, and performance optimization.

  • Experience working directly with external banking and payment partners (e.g., card networks, payment processors).

Our Benefits:

  • Equity in the company – RSUs
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)
  • 26 days paid holiday + additional company days off
  • Royalties (KUP)
  • Hybrid working model (our office is in the Kraków City Centre)
  • Commute allowance
  • Health/Dental Coverage – LUX MED VIP for employee and family
  • Life Insurance

  • Pluxee Lunch Card/Multisport Card
  • Education Budget
  • Mental Health program for employee
  • Family planning program
  • Employee Pension Plan (PPK)
