Own outcomes, not just output, balancing speed and craftsmanship to deliver value that compounds using state-of-the-art tools and methodologies. This role follows a hybrid schedule in our Berlin office to collaborate effectively with the team.Your TasksWhat you'll doShip user-facing features end-to-end: ideation, technical design, implementation, testing, release, and iterationCollaborate with Product and Design to turn complex requirements into elegant, scalable solutionsImprove the reliability, performance, and security of our payroll, accounting, and tax platformsRaise the bar on engineering quality via thoughtful reviews, pairing, testing, and documentationInstrument features with analytics and logging; measure impact and iterate quicklyOwn critical product areas with a bias for high-impact improvementsBalance short-term delivery with long-term architectural investmentsDrive simplicity: reduce cognitive load for users and developers alikeWhat makes it specialHigh ownership: you'll shape what we build and how we build itYour engineering decisions directly influence user experience and business outcomesTight feedback loops with customers and internal stakeholdersPragmatic pace: ship, learn, iterate, without sacrificing qualityCore responsibilitiesExperience & Mindset5+ years in software engineering with significant product-building experience at a startup or high-growth companyProven track record of owning features and services end-to-end and driving measurable customer impactComfortable with ambiguity and discovery; experienced collaborating closely with Product and DesignYou turn constraints into focus, manage your own time, and leave codebases and teams better than you found themYou simplify complex systems, make good decisions reversible, and build comprehensible plansComfortable using AI coding tools like Cursor, Copilot, or Claude, and able to audit and test AI-generated codeTechnical SkillsStrong in at least two of: TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, PythonDomain Driven Design: solid grasp of domain design and relationshipsTesting: unit, integration, and end-to-end; CI/CD, feature flags, and rollout strategiesObservability: logs, metrics, traces; familiarity with SLOs and incident responseSecurity basics: authN/authZ, secrets management, threat modeling, secure coding practicesThe process1.
