Assistant Director of Operations and Event Management

JOB DESCRIPTION
USC Athletics is looking to hire an Assistant Director of Operations and Event Management to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. This role is responsible for supporting facility and event management for one or more assigned facilities and/or sports. Coordinates logistics and communications for games and events, custodial needs, and daily facility issues and upgrades. Supports event preparation, installation, and breakdown, and leads equipment inventory and storage practices.
Additional requirements include knowledge of, and compliance with, NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations. Knowledge of event scheduling methods, facility use agreements and event planning processes. Ability to make quick, rational decisions. Ability to work with, exhibit sensitivity to, and understand varied racial, ethnic, disability, sexual orientation, and cultural backgrounds of community college students. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, demonstrating advanced writing skills. Demonstrable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Strong knowledge of standard safety practices using equipment and other requirements of workplace safety.
Reporting directly to the Associate Athletic Director of Operations Facilities and Event Management, the Assistant Director of Operations and Event Management will work in collaboration with all departments within athletics. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office, excellent communication skills, and have a strong attention to detail. Knowledge and compliance of NCAA, Big Ten Conference, MPSF and University policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of event and facility planning, including event design and facility maintenance. Experience with staffing and organization of events. Experience in event and facilities scheduling. Knowledge of staffing requirements related to game/event management. Strong supervisory skills – ability to hire, train, coordinate, schedule, promote and terminate subordinates. Strong oral and written communication skills. Possession of good interpersonal skills, professional tact, and the ability to interpret complex concepts. Knowledge of event related audio/visual components.

Stand for extended periods of time and carry/move up to 50 pounds

Roles and responsibilities to include:
Serves as primary and secondary event manager for assigned sports
Develop and implement game/event safety and security protocols
Conduct event specific briefings and planning meetings
Establish communication with visiting teams, officials, game/event staff and broadcast personnel
Supports event preparation, installation, and breakdown, as required
Prepares budget tracking/proposals, purchase orders, and reallocation of funds from event management expenses
Serves as a liaison and point of contact for various athletics department activities (e.g.,recreational sports, facility rentals, campus filming, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Proficient with Microsoft Office
1+ years of experience working in intercollegiate athletic event management at the Division I level.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
3+ years of intercollegiate athletic event management experience at the Division I level.
Knowledge of and experience working in higher education preferred
Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes preferred

Hourly Range
The hourly rate range for this position is $28.00-$31.00/HR.
