Senior Architect (role as Project Manager)

As BIG Shanghai continues to grow and take on more exciting projects, we are currently hiring for a Senior Architect in the role of a Project Manager to join our local office in Shanghai. You will work closely with Partners, Project Architects, and Managers throughout all project phases—leading or assisting in design development, documentation, team coordination, and construction-phase collaboration.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the management of small- to large-scale and complex projects across all stages
- Coordinate project schedules, deliverables, and client communication
- Ensure high-quality, on-time delivery through close collaboration with the design team
- Oversee the technical execution of all project stages, including detailing, construction, and regulatory compliance
- Engage with clients to facilitate discussions and drive solutions
- Report on design progress, operations, risk, and contract matters to Partners and the China Director
- Develop strategic timelines and work plans for design implementation
- Proactively assess and manage project risks
- Provide technical and constructability guidance, mentoring team members as needed
- Support the team in developing compelling creative design proposals
- Foster effective communication among clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities
- Offer technical direction and innovative solutions to resolve complex challenges
- A professional degree in architecture
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a project management role
- Experience with large, complex projects in China
- Familiarity with local building codes and project execution processes in China
- Fluency in both English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work well under pressure
- Proactive attitude and a strong sense of responsibility
- Strong team spirit, with an open and collaborative mindset
- Experience with completed and published built work is preferred
- Prior work experience at international design offices or in cross-border collaboration is a plus
