We are actively hiring a Regional Director of Operations to support our West Region sites (Covina, CA; Northridge, CA; Walnut Creek, CA)

Shift: Monday-Friday, day shift, 40 hours per week

COMPENSATION: $150,000 - $180,000 base salary (depending on experience) plus Bonus

FLSA Classification:  Exempt 

Location:  Remote but within reasonable travel distance to West Region sites.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Own the regional P&L and execute against budgeted revenue, margin, and EBITDA targets with full accountability for financial performance
  • Drive strategic and tactical decisions to optimize regional profitability, working collaboratively with Site Directors to achieve financial objectives
  • Responsible for regional operational and financial metrics including budget development, monthly reporting, variance analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Effectively utilize financial levers to manage regional operational budgets, including fixed and variable costs, capital expenditure requests, and resource allocation
  • Analyze operational volume and labor staffing models across sites to determine optimal staffing requirements and efficiency opportunities
  • Understand clinical trial agreement budgets to identify renegotiation opportunities, prioritize Tier 1 studies (high patient volume or high per patient randomized value), and ensure appropriate protocol selection aligned with regional capabilities and strategic value
  • Bridge clinical operations with accounting, finance, and commercial teams to ensure alignment on financial objectives and study economics
  • Maintain accurate backlog forecasting and pipeline visibility to support regional revenue projections and capacity planning
  • Oversee bottom of funnel (BOF) conversion metrics, working with Site Directors and commercial teams to improve win rates and optimize study activation timelines
  • Implement plans and processes to maintain and improve productivity and profitability across all regional sites
  • Identify and execute operational synergies and best practice sharing across sites within the region

  • Develop and execute regional operational strategy in alignment with corporate objectives and the Flourish Approach
  • Become deeply knowledgeable about the history, operations, competitive positioning, and market dynamics of each site and the regional footprint
  • Provide input on regional expansion opportunities including site acquisitions, de novos, and capability enhancements
  • Support commercial team in feasibility assessments and strategic sponsor relationship development
  • Collaborate with Medical Advisory Board on regional therapeutic area strategy and KOL engagement
  • Partner with growth team on integration planning and execution for new site acquisitions within the region
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing Site Directors and site-level leadership teams
  • Lead, coach, and engage a team of Site Directors to execute against clinical and operational strategy with clear performance expectations
  • Drive performance management and coaching/development objectives across the regional leadership team
  • Serve as the change, culture, and engagement champion for the region, partnering with HR on People and Culture initiatives
  • Work with the training team to develop a robust pipeline of effective leadership at the site and regional level
  • Utilize routines and best practices to assess performance, provide recognition, and deliver performance coaching when gaps are identified
  • Direct regional recruiting strategy to fulfill talent needs for short, mid, and long-term success
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across sites to build regional operational capabilities
  • Provide oversight and hold Site Directors accountable for execution of all clinical trial activities in compliance with GCP, FDA regulations, ICH guidelines, HIPAA laws, and sponsor protocols
  • Drive standardization of operations, systems, and processes across all regional sites to ensure consistency, efficiency, and operational excellence
  • Ensure Site Directors maintain structured SOPs, policies, and procedures in partnership with Quality and Risk teams
  • Monitor site-level performance on enrollment, retention, data quality, protocol compliance, and sponsor satisfaction metrics
  • Ensure continuous high-level involvement by Principal Investigators through Site Director coaching and investigator engagement
  • Ensure data integrity and timely submission of quality data to sponsors through effective oversight of site quality control processes
  • Ensure the safety of study participants through appropriate training and oversight in collaboration with Medical Advisory Board
  • Hold Flourish shared services functions accountable to deliver against agreed-upon service level targets, including Human Resources, Feasibility, Budgets and Contracts, Quality, Training, Information Technology, and Finance
  • Serve as the regional voice in corporate strategy discussions and planning processes
  • Escalate issues and advocate for regional needs with executive leadership and shared services teams
  • Partner with Quality leadership to drive regional quality metrics and audit readiness
  • Collaborate with IT and training teams to ensure effective adoption of systems and processes
  • Work with commercial team to communicate regional capacity, capabilities, and competitive positioning
  • Represent Flourish Research in a professional and courteous manner (verbal, written and in appearance) when interacting with all staff, clients, and vendors.

Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Work is performed in a remote office setting.
  • Travel required (30-40%)
  • Daily computer use.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work schedules.
  • Ability to drive and daily availability of an automobile.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred or commensurate experience.

Experience: 10+ years required in clinical research, 5+ years in site leadership roles (Site Director, or RDO).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional knowledge of clinical research methods.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and align with operations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills to include Office365 products.
  • Experience in writing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Strong problem solving, risk assessment and impact analysis abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task and prioritize competing demands.
  • Ability to think independently and influence when appropriate.
