- The Specimen Processing Services Specialist II applies the knowledge of specialty testing in performing venipuncture phlebotomy, processing specimens and staffing transfusion support.
- This role is primarily responsible for assisting with the coordination of daily workflow in the lab, participating in cross-department projects, troubleshooting and resolving issue and may participate in training staff.
Per Diem - Fully Onsite - Sunday through following Sat - variable schedule based omn department needs
Responsibilities
- Performs specimen processing of laboratory samples
- Processes specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting and dispensing specimens to proper lab processing and send out sites
- Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs and projects
- Records variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required
- May include Patient Service Representative duties
- Assists with the coordination of daily workflow
- Troubleshoots and collaborates with other departments to resolve issues
- May participate in department and/or Fred Hutch process improvement initiative
- Demonstrates professionalism
- Will perform either bone marrow assistant duties and/or the Transfusion Service Support function
- May participate in training and mentoring of new employees
- Has the ability to work under pressure and adjust to changing workloads
- Ability to problem solve
- Meets attendance and punctuality expecatations
Qualifications
Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Competency as Tech I or minimum of one year work experience in a laboratory environment. Experience with use of Electronic Medical Records system
- WA State MA/Phlebotomist certification for Phlebotomist role.
- WA State Surgical Tech registration required if assisting with bone marrow collection
- Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
- Ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
- Proficient in the use of email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment
- Demonstrates initiative as evidenced by advancing technical skills, sharing knowledge with others and taking on more responsibility.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
- Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role
Preferred:
- Completion of phlebotomy training course
- Intermediate ability with MS Word and Excel
