Job Purpose
- The PADAS and Digital Service Group Leader / Section Leader is a leadership role contributing directly to Honda's Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric (CASE) goals.
- The position will serve as Group Leader (GL) for the entire ADAS / AD ECU, and Digital Service development area, with primary responsibility for people leadership including performance management, career development, hiring, onboarding, resource planning, and work-life balance for all engineers within the group.
- Additionally, this role may serve as Section Leader (SL) specifically for the PADAS ECU area, providing technical mentorship and guidance to engineers, serving as the first level of support for technical questions and document reviews prior to Technical Expert correlation.
- PADAS-related ECU development includes the design, integration, and validation of ECU hardware (HW) and base software (BSW), fault detection strategies, diagnostic communication functions, and cyber security implementations. The MPU ECU supports map positioning functions for vehicle autonomy. The Digital Service area focuses on connected vehicle services and over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities.
- The objective of this role is to ensure project deliverables are achieved on-time with a quality mindset, while developing the technical capabilities and career growth of all team members, thereby ensuring succession and continuity within the department and aligning with the vision of HDMA.
Key Accountabilities
- Track and assess performance versus stated goals and competencies for ADAS / AD ECU, and Digital Service engineers
- Serve as the primary point of contact for technical questions from junior engineers within ADAS / AD ECU development; support creation of project-specific development plans and schedules.
- Hiring and Onboarding (Group Leader): Identify, review, evaluate, and provide hiring recommendations for candidates by working with human resources, recruiting agencies, and department leaders; attend career fairs and other recruiting activities as needed; create onboarding training plans for new engineers within the PADAS/MPU/Digital Service group; and regularly review learning status with section leaders while refining focus areas.
- Resource and Budget Management (Group Leader): Ensure project resources are available by creating proposals for required assets for PADAS ECU, MPU ECU, and Digital Service development; review future facility, equipment, and IT asset needs with subject matter experts; maintain department records of asset locations; create, justify, and maintain a group-level budget plan; and create or support development contracts and statements of work for budget expenditures.
- Work Life Balance and Scheduling (Group Leader): Forecast and manage group schedule and workload across PADAS, MPU, and Digital Service development activities; create and maintain a workload forecasting tool based on project complexity, applied technologies, and schedule; create proposals based on future headcount requirements; and hold regular team meetings to review workload, support work-life balance, and re-allocate work as necessary.
- Improvement and Innovation: May lead large cross-functional teams of engineers on broad investigations of new processes or technologies which improve PADAS, MPU, and Digital Service development activities, capability, or efficiency; research and influence future ADAS and Digital Service architecture, features, and efficient development methods; maintain understanding of current and emerging ADAS technologies, external regulations, and industry best practices; make project proposals to management and report progress on technical activity, budget, and schedule; and coordinate with global Honda offices on technology advancements and best practices.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Educational qualifications: Candidate must have a 4-year Bachelors level college degree / diploma in a STEM field of study
- At least 8 or more years of relevant industry experience in ADAS/ AD ECU technical subject matter area, alongside in-depth understanding of ADAS systems, ECU development, and automotive communication protocols.
- Computer skills including, e.g. - Vector CANalyzer, ETAS Inca, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Visio.
- Should have prior demonstrable experience in project management and coordination of activities in a deadline-oriented engineering environment along with strong people leadership skills with demonstrated ability to develop and motivate team members
- Be able to acclimate to new environments, negotiate through unknowns and meet new people
- Be able to manage time effectively and productively
- Must have solid quantitative / analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Should have effective communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
- Be able to cultivate and manage relationships of varying levels in/out of the organization, including with suppliers
- Be able to multi-task and work independently with attention to detai
- Demonstrate aptitude to become a future Technical Expert in subject matter area
- Other job-specifc requirements:
- Must be able to lift at least ~ 20 lbs and move 50 ft, without requiring any assistance.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and should be able to operate a motor vehicle without requiring any assistance
Workstyle
- This is an onsite job. One remote workday per week may be possible with prior departmental approval.
