Department Overview:
Part of the TD Bank Group, TD Wealth (TDW) Private Wealth Management (PWM) provides a comprehensive range of wealth management services to high-net-worth (investable assets of at least $1,000,000) individuals, families, and organizations with wide-ranging and often-complex needs. TD Wealth Private Wealth Management leverages a distinctive discovery process and an integrated, team-based approach to build a wealth strategy that reflects each client's unique needs. As part of our commitment to deepen client relationships, our team members collaborate closely to deliver a full spectrum of TD Wealth Private Wealth Management services – from private banking services and estate and trust planning to philanthropy, business succession and tax planning. More broadly, we bring the best of the Bank to our clients in partnership with Canadian Personal Banking, Business Banking, our TD Securities teams, and other corporate partners.

The Region Head, Toronto Core & Atlantic, Private Wealth Management, reports directly to the Head of Distribution, Private Wealth Management. This is one of the key leadership positions on the Private Wealth Management Senior Executive team and an integral part of TD Bank's strategy for TDW Private Wealth Management.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the overall sales leadership of respective regions translating strategy into actionable delivery.

  • Developing a high-performance sales culture

  • Lead a group of Branch Managers and Market Managers in the development and execution of their respective regional business plans.

  • Driving the region’s operating performance, sales management culture, talent management strategy and tactics, as well as business development, compliance oversight and recruitment of top talent.

  • Contributing to the achievement of TDW Private Wealth Management overall business results by developing and executing an annual regional business and operating plan consistent with the PWM strategy and objectives.

  • Developing and preserving productive and respectful partnership relationships across TD Wealth and TD Bank

  • Inspiring business and talent leadership by recruiting, developing, and leading high-performing teams through personal development planning, objective-setting and timely feedback, and performance assessments. 

  • Coaching and developing executive talent by building and maintaining a succession plan for key roles in the region.

  • Actively promoting the TDW PWM brand within the region by participation and leadership in business and industry groups, and related activities, including public speaking and media appearances.

  • Supporting TD Bank Group-sponsored activities and other local community events.

  • Overseeing and directing the negotiation and appropriate resolution of significant client issues that may include liaising with internal and external ombudsmen, and industry regulators.

  • Providing ongoing leadership, counsel, and oversight on compliance-related matters to ensure conformity with evolving industry regulations, internal compliance, risk management, audit policies and practices, and delivering satisfactory audit results

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of distribution leadership experience, including branch and sales management.

  • Ability to travel across regions within which the role is accountable for, including across Canada from time-to-time and as required.

  • A successful track record of recruiting, acquiring, growing, and retaining top talent, promoting diversity and inclusion, building partnerships, aligning enterprise capabilities, and raising the bar on continuous improvement. 

  • A proven ability to serve as strategist, change agent and advocate, while balancing business realities, regulatory expectations, and best practices.

  • Experience working in a large financial institution where success is achieved by collaborating with other business partners.

  • A clear understanding of the importance of collaboration across the organization to leverage peer groups.

  • A proven ability to stay resilient under pressure and to operate in an evolving and sometimes ambiguous environment. 

  • A proven ability to drive results and foster an environment of accountability and ownership.

  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills to meet tight deadlines, as well as the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Confident presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Effective influencing skills, including strong positive written and verbal communication skills.

  • Minimum of an undergraduate university degree or related post-secondary education

  • Current qualification and/or registration with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) as a Registered Representative and Supervisor and/or PDO

  • Business Acumen – Employ an in-depth understanding of our wealth management advisory offering and key levers to drive superior results.  Analyze sales and financial data, identify trends, and implement specific tactics to increase revenue, reduce expenses, enhance firm profitability, and drive growth.    

  • Strategic Insight –   Study the competitive landscape, looking for emerging industry trends across North America and recommend strategies to drive a competitive advantage.  Develop a compelling vision and engage others in achieving it, while providing thought leadership and constantly striving to find ways to outperform. 

  • Business Development Capability –Lead in the community, develop opportunities to grow the TDW Private Wealth Management lines of business, and increase our profile in the local market.

  • Proactive Risk Management – Possess a strong understanding of the Bank’s internal risk management and audit policies and procedures and those defined by external entities, including relevant banking authorities and industry regulators.  Lead with IIROC and CSA standards and regulations at the forefront of decision-making.  Actively participate in creating new policies and procedures for the business to meet new and evolving regulatory requirements.
