Position Summary
The Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety requirements. This position partners with operations, maintenance, logistics, contractors, and employees to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, conduct training, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
Identify hazards and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
Monitor and track safety performance metrics and compliance activities.
Maintain safety-related records, reports, permits, and documentation.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors.
- Facilitate new employee safety orientation and ongoing refresher training.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and personal accountability.
- Support safety committees, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives.
Incident Investigation
Investigate workplace injuries, near misses, property damage, and safety incidents.
Determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Track corrective actions to completion and verify effectiveness.
Prepare detailed incident reports and management summaries.
Audits & Continuous Improvement
Conduct internal audits and support external regulatory inspections.
Monitor corrective actions resulting from audits and assessments.
Analyze trends and recommend improvements to reduce risk and prevent injuries.
Support implementation and maintenance of EHS management systems.
Contractor & Site Safety
Ensure contractors comply with company safety requirements and site-specific procedures.
Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), safety plans, and work permits.
Participate in project safety reviews and site safety inspections.
Support emergency preparedness and response activities.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
3–5 years of safety, environmental, health, and safety (EHS) experience in manufacturing, logistics, distribution, construction, or industrial operations preferred.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of OSHA and applicable safety regulations.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct investigations and root cause analysis.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting systems.
Ability to influence and collaborate with employees at all organizational levels.
Preferred Certifications
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST)
Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
OSHA 30-Hour Certification
First Aid/CPR Certification
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk production, warehouse, and construction areas for extended periods.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions and wear required PPE.

Reduction in recordable incidents and near-miss trends.
Completion of safety audits and corrective actions.
Regulatory compliance performance.
Training completion rates.
Employee engagement in safety programs and initiatives.
HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $25-38 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
