The Credit Risk Review function within American Express’ Third Line of Defense (3LOD is responsible for providing independent oversight and assurance to key Consumer & Commercial credit risk portfolios. The team aims to strengthen our risk management framework and ensure that we continue to uphold the highest standards of credit risk management across the enterprise. 

This Credit Risk Review function would be supported by a strong Data Analytics team to enable data-driven and technology-led assurance. We are looking for a detail-oriented data analyst eager to learn and apply analytics to credit risk review, turning complex datasets into clear, well-documented, and actionable insights for the review teams.

  • Perform hands-on data extraction, transformation, analysis and automation using SQL, Python, or similar tools with accuracy & timeliness

  • Develop insightful dashboards and reports in Tableau or Power BI.

  • Support portfolio and thematic review analyses through data preparation, validation, and visualization.

  • Perform quality assurance checks on outputs to ensure accuracy.

  • Maintain clear documentation of data sources, logics, and processes.

  • Contribute ideas for process improvements within scope of work.

  • Participate in skill-building and knowledge-sharing sessions.

  • Contribute to a culture of ideation and innovation by bringing fresh ideas, exploring new tools and experimenting with approaches that enhance analytics delivery

  • 1–3 years’ experience in analytics, data manipulation, or reporting (financial services or credit risk a plus).

  • Proficiency in SQL, Big Query & Python (additional scripting languages a plus).

  • Working knowledge of credit risk concepts, portfolio metrics, and risk assessment techniques (experience in Commercial portfolio a plus).

  • Proficiency in dashboarding tools such as Tableau and Power BI.

  • Strong Excel skills for quick-turnaround analysis (VBA programming a plus).

  • Familiarity with prompt engineering to optimize the use of Gen AI tools for research, data analysis, code development, automation and insight generation (experience across using multiple LLMs such as GPT, Claude, Turbo, Haiko etc. a plus)

  • Detail-oriented with strong quality control habits.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks in parallel.

  • Self – motivated performer with a curiosity to learn and develop credit risk concepts, portfolio analytics, and advanced analytic techniques.
