ABOUT THE BANK CONNECTORS TEAM
Trustly's Bank Connectors team is responsible for the technical layer that connects Trustly's payment network to thousands of financial institutions across North America and Europe. This team builds and maintains the integrations, APIs, and data pipelines that make real-time account verification, bank authentication, and direct payment execution possible at scale — and is at the forefront of Trustly's effort to build an AI-centric connectivity layer.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Director of Bank Connectors, you will own the core of Trustly. Bank connectivity is what Trustly is — every payment we process runs through the connections your team builds, and the reliability, coverage, and speed of that network is the foundation of our business. This is a highly technical leadership role at the intersection of financial infrastructure and AI: you'll own the architecture of how Trustly connects to banks and lead the team responsible for building and scaling it. The ambition goes beyond AI-assisted development — your mandate is to build an entirely agentic system of bank connectivity, where connections are built, monitored, and maintained by autonomous systems, setting a new standard for what bank connectivity infrastructure can be.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
-
Own the technical roadmap and execution for Trustly's bank connector infrastructure — including screen scraping, open banking APIs, bank data aggregation, and direct connectivity integrations.
-
Lead and develop a team of engineers building and maintaining bank integrations at scale; establish engineering best practices, code quality standards, and testing frameworks appropriate to high-reliability financial integrations.
-
Drive Trustly's AI-centric approach to bank connectors — leveraging LLMs and AI-assisted tooling to accelerate connector development, automate maintenance, and improve coverage and reliability.
-
Monitor, triage, and resolve connectivity issues across Trustly's bank network; build observability and alerting systems that enable proactive identification and resolution of bank-side degradations.
-
Partner with the VP of Banks and commercial teams to prioritize bank coverage based on merchant demand and strategic value; expand Trustly's connectable bank footprint in the US.
-
Stay current on open banking regulatory developments, bank API standards, and data access frameworks — ensuring Trustly's connector strategy is positioned ahead of market changes.
WHO YOU ARE
-
8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
-
Deep experience building and maintaining financial data integrations, bank APIs, or payment connectivity infrastructure — you understand the complexity and brittleness of financial institution integrations firsthand.
-
Strong interest in and working knowledge of AI-assisted development practices — experience using LLMs to accelerate development, automate testing, or build intelligent monitoring systems.
-
Operationally excellent — experienced running high-reliability integrations in production, with strong instincts around observability, alerting, and graceful degradation.
-
Experience with open banking standards (Plaid, MX, Finicity, or equivalent direct bank API experience) strongly preferred.
-
Strong communicator — able to represent technical complexity clearly to non-technical stakeholders and partner effectively with commercial and product teams.
