Electrical Engineering Owner’s Representative (Data Centre)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience in designing, planning, and managing electrical power and distribution systems for data centre new development and infrastructure fit-out projects.
As the Owner’s Representative, you will provide independent technical leadership to safeguard the owner’s interests by ensuring robust, reliable, and efficient electrical infrastructure that meets stringent uptime and scalability requirements.
You’ll be a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate effectively across engineering, construction, and client teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design review and technical oversight of electrical systems for newbuild data centres, including medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) distribution, backup power, grounding, and lighting.
- Prepare and evaluate electrical specifications, single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, and construction documentation in compliance with NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and local regulations.
- Assess and recommend critical power equipment—including utility substations, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and PDUs—based on reliability, redundancy (N+1, 2N), and maintainability.
- Conduct load flow studies, short-circuit analyses, arc flash hazard assessments, and power quality evaluations to ensure system safety and performance.
- Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and perform site inspections to verify installation quality, code compliance, and adherence to design intent.
- Support commissioning of electrical systems, including generator load bank testing, UPS runtime validation, automatic transfer switch (ATS) sequencing, and grounding verification.
- Collaborate with mechanical, structural, and IT teams to integrate electrical infrastructure with cooling, rack layout, and facility monitoring systems.
- Evaluate opportunities for energy efficiency, renewable integration, and smart grid technologies within the electrical design.
- Maintain awareness of evolving standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier requirements, ISO/IEC 27001) and emerging trends such as DC power distribution or modular electrical skids.
Requirements:
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Valid work authorization in the local region.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or P.Eng. certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical design for mission-critical facilities, with a focus on data centres (newbuild and fit-out).
- In-depth knowledge of utility interconnection, MV/LV distribution, UPS topologies, standby generators, and emergency power systems.
- Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks) and project platforms (e.g., Procore, ACC).
- Familiarity with Tier III/IV architectures, fault tolerance, and concurrent maintainability principles.
- Strong understanding of grounding, bonding, lightning protection, and arc flash mitigation.
- Excellent communication, risk assessment, and cross-functional coordination skills.
