To maintain Northland Community and Technical College’s 114 Acres of maintained grounds, 5,280 linear feet of roads, 640,197 square feet of parking surface, 57,388 square feet of sidewalks, irrigation systems, landscaping, athletic fields and the overall outside appearance of the facilities. Responsibilities include developing plans for parking lot construction and repair projects, as well as major landscape plans. This employee provides lead work for the semi-skilled employees involved in the care of the grounds, roads, parking lots and landscaping of the property. Administrative supervision is of a non-technical nature affording the employee wide latitude for independent action in carrying out the specifics of the position.
- Responsible for NCTC’s grounds, parking lots, roads
- Maintain NCTC buildings
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner
Minimum Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of modern landscape planning principles.
- Thorough knowledge of groundskeeping and horticultural practices as applied to landscaping of areas surrounding a group of public buildings, as well as establishing buffer zones for short and long term needs.
- Thorough knowledge of the care of flowers, trees, and shrubs common to building grounds work; methods of cultivating, pruning, spraying, trimming, and sodding; materials and tools used in such work.
- Considerable knowledge of methods of minor repair to roads, parking lots and sidewalks and ability to prepare plans for major resurfacing repair to be conducted by an outside contractor.
- Working knowledge of horticulture techniques and practices including planting schedules, germination intervals, and transplantation procedures sufficient to operate greenhouses, landscape facility gardens and grounds, and recognize and/or treat plant disease and pests.
- Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
- The individual must be in good physical health and perform a variety of both light and heavy lifting.
- The individual must be able to work outdoors in a variety of adverse weather conditions as the seasons change.
- Ability to work above ground level such as on ladders and scaffolding.
- Ability to keep records pertaining to the work.
- Must possess a current Class D driver’s license.
Preferred Qualification
- Knowledge of and ability to direct repairs to machinery and equipment, maintain working schedules and inspect materials and working progress.
- Some knowledge of the fire alarm system
- Ability to plan, assign duties and supervise workers usually unskilled.
