Job Summary
Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedure.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Must be able to comprehend instructions from supervisors and/or co-workers.• Applies knowledge of shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques.• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements.• Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures cutting tools attachments accessories and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jug borers, grinders, and shapers.• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining,and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.• Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.• Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.• Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.• May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.• May operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.• Communicates verbally/effectively in English with supervisors and co-workers for resolution of any questions regarding safety, job conduct, and product quality control.• Operates vehicles, industrial cleaning equipment or power tools when authorized and qualified to do so and in accordance with established company rules and work orders.• Cleans up work area and equipment after work is completed.• Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company.

• Must be able to work, when necessary, plus reasonable overtime on day or night and/or weekends.
Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent• Minimum one to two years of related experience• Knowledge of machining practices• Must possess basic math skills• Must be able to read and interpret simple measuring devises• Must be able to read and write English• Must be able to read and interpret drawings

Physical Demands
• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time• Must be able to bend, push, pull, twist, squat, crawl, lift and climb• Requires the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
Work Environment
• Will work in heat, noisy, dusty, dirty, cold environment• May be exposed to chemicals and pinching hazards
