The visual investigations senior producer is a highly skilled reporter/producer with a proven track record of using sharp editorial judgement to uncover original stories through data-driven reporting, video and image analysis, and other investigatory methods. They will produce video investigations that deconstruct critical moments, expose wrongdoing and hold powerful people and institutions accountable through compelling visual products for multiple platforms. They must have a proven track record of using OSINT and other digital forensic tools and methodologies to produce groundbreaking original video journalism.

Must be a self-starter, an enthusiastic employee with deep curiosity, and able to work well on a team.  The main responsibilities will include all aspects of story research and newsgathering, including visuals – whether graphics, animations, or video, setting up and producing shoots and edits and executing multiple projects simultaneously.

The senior producer helps develop story pitches, research investigative ideas, and participates in story brainstorming meetings. They will research and secure interviews with individuals and sources who will offer a unique perspective and drive the story, pre-interview possible characters, develop creative ideas for storytelling, confirm facts and gather appropriate photos, documents, and other appropriate research for production elements. Other responsibilities include scripting and conceiving creative, dynamic graphics. They will also be responsible for field assignment logistics, such as determining locations, performing virtual site surveys, securing permissions needed, liaising with CNN security, overseeing the story budget and supervising teams in the field. The Senior Producer will work closely with producers, Senior Writers and reporters and Correspondents on video and written projects, as well as run their own projects.

The senior producer is well-versed in producing video journalism across platforms, extensive experience in OSINT and data analysis, and filing FOIA requests. Proficient in analyzing satellite imagery, marine and flight tracking, etc.  Must be able to work independently if needed to oversee all aspects of a story including assignment, deadlines, coordination as well as liaise with investigations team leadership, shows, programming, photo and data visualization teams.

Your Role Accountabilities… 

  • Create compelling video journalism for digital and linear platforms 

  • Pursue multiple high-impact investigative projects, balancing long-term initiatives with rapid-turn exclusives.

  • Conduct deep-dive open-source research and verification, leveraging advanced digital forensic tools and methodologies.

  • Proficiency in OSINT methods and tools; including video verification, AI detection, geolocation, chronolocation, social media scraping and metadata analysis. Proficient in analyzing satellite imagery, as well as marine and flight tracking, etc.

  • Skilled at conceiving and overseeing production of motion graphics and animations including 3D animation when necessary.

  • Advanced scripting, storytelling, and editorial skills, with a mastery of visual narrative techniques.

  • Develop and execute stories or digital video investigations from start to finish including pre- and post-production. 

  • Assist in or write text stories for publishing on CNN’s digital platforms 

  • Produce live segments, both in the field or in the studio or from remote network locations as needed

  • Knowledge of producing shoots, edits, and graphics a must

  • Uphold and advance CNN’s journalistic standards, ethics, and commitment to impactful storytelling.

  

Qualifications & Experience… 

  • Minimum of 8 years of production experience in the news television industry or digital video journalism, with investigative reporting experience a necessity. 

  • BA/BS in journalism, politics or a related field preferred or equivalent in experience. 

  • Must have strong news judgment as well as strong written, verbal, interpersonal communication, research, and production skills.

  • Past reporting and field experience is an advantage. 

  • Skilled at conceiving and overseeing production of motion graphics and animations including 3D animation when necessary.

  • Advanced scripting, storytelling, and editorial skills, with a mastery of visual narrative techniques.

  • Proficiency in OSINT methods and tools; including video verification, AI detection, geolocation, chronolocation and metadata analysis. Proficient in Google Earth Pro, marine and flight tracking, etc.

  • Willingness to travel as needed for reporting assignments.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $103,460.00 - $192,140.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
