We are looking for a talented Packaging Engineer- Senior to join our team specializing in Logistics for our Corporate organization in Whiteland, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Design and implement innovative packaging and container solutions that improve product protection, manufacturability, and efficiency throughout the product life cycle.
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to develop expendable and returnable packaging that meets operational, quality, and transportation requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce packaging costs, minimize waste, enhance quality, and support sustainability objectives.
- Optimize returnable container fleet sizing by collaborating with logistics, supply chain, and inventory teams to ensure operational readiness and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain site-specific packaging standards that align with Cummins Global Packaging Standards, safety requirements, storage systems, and line-side presentation needs.
- Ensure supplier compliance with packaging specifications, regulatory requirements, and shipping standards to support reliable inbound and outbound material flow.
- Support packaging procurement strategies by partnering with Indirect Purchasing to identify cost-effective solutions and maximize value from packaging investments.
- Apply strong business acumen and data-driven decision making to evaluate packaging opportunities, improve processes, and deliver measurable operational and financial results.

- Industrial Packaging Design - Develops primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging designs for industrial products through the application of engineering techniques to ensure product protection for all touch points of an end to end supply chain.
- Operations Integration in Industrial Packaging - Demonstrates and applies knowledge of manufacturing process, equipment and the physical flows of inbound parts to finished goods to establish industrial packaging methods and equipment that integrate safely and efficiently into the operational environment.
- Packaging Distribution Conditions and Dynamics - Recognizes environmental conditions and dynamic forces placed on packaging in supply chains by explaining the hazards and corresponding requirements that ensure product protection.
- Packaging Material Knowledge - Demonstrates the benefits of using different packaging mediums by articulating their physical properties, types and characteristics to select the packaging materials for the application, product protection, cost and impact on the environment.
- Packaging Testing - Evaluates performance validation tests, standards and reports to distinguish which method to apply; interprets test reports and draws conclusions in order to ensure packaging performance meets transit and handling conditions through end to end supply chain.
- Returnable Packaging Management - Gathers and analyzes financial data, fleet sizing, tracking, maintenance, logistics and performance monitoring requirements to develop a returnable packaging program that delivers savings in material and transportation while reducing waste.
- Problem Solving - Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering or related discipline is required. Packaging Engineering or Packaging Science degree is highly preferred.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of Packaging Engineering or related experience is required

- Work in collaboration with third party provider at IDC warehouse
- Provide Aftermarket packaging Guidelines to vendors
