Accountabilities:
- Independently assess facultative life reinsurance applications by evaluating medical, non-medical, and financial risks.
- Apply expert judgment to make competitive and consistent underwriting decisions while using established guidelines as a reference.
- Identify key risk factors, assess insurability, and ensure decisions are supported with clear documentation.
- Provide timely responses to client inquiries and support underwriting teams with complex case discussions.
- Communicate underwriting decisions clearly, explaining rationale and supporting client confidence in recommendations.
- Manage facultative new business submissions and additional requirements efficiently.
- Maintain awareness of mortality trends, market practices, and evolving underwriting approaches.
- Build strong relationships with clients and serve as a knowledgeable underwriting partner.
- Represent the organization professionally during client meetings, industry events, reviews, and audits.
- Support team development by reviewing and co-signing cases when needed.
- Contribute to process improvements, team initiatives, and enhanced client experiences.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 8+ years of life underwriting experience, preferably with a direct life insurer and brokerage distribution experience.
- Facultative reinsurance underwriting experience preferred.
- Industry designations such as ALMI, FLMI, AALU, FALU, or CLU preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and impaired/substandard risk assessment.
- Experience evaluating medical, non-medical, and financial risk factors.
- Ability to assess higher mortality risk cases and provide appropriate underwriting recommendations.
- Experience reviewing insurance contracts, legal processes, and life insurance products within the US market.
- Strong client-facing communication and relationship management skills.
- Ability to present, defend, and explain underwriting decisions to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience participating in team projects and improving processes.
- Strong initiative, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
- Experience reading electrocardiograms is preferred.
- Competitive base salary range of $120,503 to $139,530.
