The Opportunity

As Root Insurance continues to aggressively scale its Independent Agent (IA) channel, we are seeking a Territory Sales Manager (TSM) to serve as a vital revenue growth and profitability lever. This role is dedicated to establishing and managing deep local agency relationships to ensure Root remains a preferred market in a highly competitive ecosystem. You will act as the face of Root in your assigned territory, balancing strategic territory planning with hands-on, field-based execution to drive sustainable, profitable growth.


Salary Range:  $73,100 - $91,400 (Eligible for Competitive Bonus & Equity Offering)

Root is a “work where it works best” company. Due to travel expectations and regional alignment, we are seeking candidates based in Texas or Florida who will travel within the assigned territories.


How You Will Make an Impact

  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain high-touch local agency relationships to ensure Root remains a preferred carrier for agencies located within the assigned territory. .
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to educate agencies on Root's product appetite, underwriting guidelines, and new initiatives to improve submission quality and adoption.
  • Market Intelligence: Gather and synthesize critical market intelligence, including competitor pricing, appetite shifts, and emerging risks, providing actionable feedback to the Product, Underwriting, and Pricing teams.
  • Performance Monitoring: Analyze agency performance metrics to identify growth opportunities and develop custom strategies for underperforming or high-potential partners.
  • Profitability Advocacy: Redirect business away from undesirable segments and geographies while reinforcing rate adequacy actions by helping agencies understand the logic behind pricing changes.
  • Field Execution: Conduct regular physical agency visits and business reviews to solve problems quickly and provide ongoing training and support.
  • Agency Prospecting: Proactively identify and recruit new, high-potential independent agency partners to expand Root's distribution footprint and market reach.
  • Agency Training: Deliver comprehensive training programs for agency staff on Root's systems, product offerings, and sales tools to drive proficiency and increase policy adoption.


What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 5+ years of experience in the insurance industry, specifically within agency distribution or business development.
  • Strong understanding of the independent agency ecosystem, including comparative raters and insurance product distribution.
  • Proven ability to translate data-driven insights into actionable growth strategies and territory plans.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong leadership presence, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to balance high-level strategic thinking with hands-on, field-based execution.
  • High level of professionalism and sound judgment, with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
