The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:
Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.
Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.
Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.
Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people.
Information about the position
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer II in the Traffic Routing team, you will help build and operate the systems that route every request into and across Vinted: our Istio gateway and the software that generates gateway (Envoy/Istio) configuration, the data center network, internal DNS and domains.
The Traffic Routing team is part of the Foundations domain within the Platform unit. We are a team of eight, and we own the path that traffic takes from the public internet down to the services running in our data centers. That spans the Istio gateway and the software we write to generate gateway configuration, the SONiC-based network operating system and the physical network underneath it, internal data-center DNS and domain management.
We care a lot about reliability and performance, and we lean on software to get there: most of our work is building and improving tooling rather than clicking through configs. You will work closely with the rest of the Foundations teams and with the product engineering teams that depend on us to reach their users.
In this position, you’ll
- Build and improve the software that generates and ships Istio gateway configuration, so traffic is routed safely and predictably.
- Automate and own operations for internal data-center DNS, domains, and the Postfix mail clusters.
- Profile and tune Linux and our network data path for latency and throughput, and remove bottlenecks wherever they appear.
- Design and run the tooling that lets us roll out config changes gradually and roll them back fast when something looks wrong.
- Work with the SONiC network OS and the physical network to keep the data-center fabric reliable and observable.
- Define and track SLOs for the routing layer, and improve our monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
- Partner with product engineering teams to make it easy and safe for them to expose their services.
- Take part in a shared, paid on-call rotation across our team
- Build eventually consistent systems to keep data synchronized across cross-Atlantic markets without sacrificing performance.
- Shift live traffic between regions and data centers with no downtime, and make rollbacks boring and instant.
- Squeeze latency and CPU out of the Linux network data path under heavy, bursty load.
- Make the routing layer observable enough that we can find the one bad hop among many before users notice.
About you
- Have solid experience writing production software in Go, Python, C++, or a similar language.
- Have a strong understanding of Linux and a track record of debugging and tuning systems for performance.
- Are comfortable owning infrastructure as code and automating operational work with configuration management tools like Ansible and Chef, rather than doing it by hand.
- Think in terms of reliability: SLOs, monitoring, alerting, and learning from incidents.
- Communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
- Are a curious, responsible engineer who enjoys learning the technologies we use and digging into how things really work.
- Advantage: hands-on experience with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, BGP, DNS) or running networks at scale.
- Advantage: experience with Istio, Envoy, or other service-mesh / proxy technologies.
- Advantage: familiarity with SONiC, Cumulus, or other switch/network operating systems.
- Advantage: experience operating Postfix or other mail infrastructure.
