Position Overview

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Hospital Medicine Admissions Team at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) in Dallas. This is an outstanding opportunity to practice in a collaborative, high-acuity academic medical center alongside experienced hospitalists, specialists, and multidisciplinary care teams.

The Hospitalist Admissions Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the evaluation and admission of adult hospitalized patients from the Emergency Department, transfer facilities, and direct admissions. The provider will perform comprehensive assessments, develop evidence-based treatment plans, initiate diagnostic workups, coordinate care with consulting services, and facilitate timely patient throughput while delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.

The Nurse Practitioner functions as a licensed, certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with prescriptive authority and practices in collaboration with supervising physicians in accordance with Texas law and Baylor Scott & White Health policies.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for newly admitted patients.
  • Evaluate adult patients presenting for inpatient admission from the Emergency Department, transfer facilities, and direct admissions.
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based diagnostic and treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic testing.
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic treatments within scope of practice.
  • Coordinate timely admissions while maintaining high standards of quality and patient safety.
  • Collaborate with consulting specialists and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Document complete admission evaluations, treatment plans, and clinical findings in the electronic medical record.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and expected hospital course.
  • Initiate consultations and referrals when patient needs exceed scope of practice or expertise.
  • Perform procedures within credentialed scope and demonstrated competency.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support departmental performance goals.
  • Maintain compliance with Baylor Scott & White Health policies, clinical protocols, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Texas RN license or RN compact privilege from a Nurse Licensure Compact state
  • Current Texas Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license
  • Current certification from an accredited national certifying body appropriate for the patient population served
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hospital Medicine or inpatient clinical experience preferred
  • Strong interest in acute inpatient medicine
  • New graduate Nurse Practitioners with relevant inpatient clinical training are encouraged to apply
