Role Summary
The Lead Director, Capex Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting supports the Corporate & Shared Services (CSS) capital portfolio. This role partners closely with our Data, Digital & Analytics Technology (DDAT) organization, Enterprise Finance, and CSS business leaders to strengthen financial reporting, drive portfolio visibility, and improve how we measure the benefits we get from our capital investments. The role manages a small team and is expected to bring a forward-thinking mindset — leveraging technology to generate better, faster, and more useful portfolio insights for senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Planning, Forecasting & Reporting
- Support the annual operating plan, mid-year reviews, and rolling forecast cycles for the CSS capital portfolio.
- Own monthly capital reporting including spend, labor, variance drivers, risks & opportunities, and reallocations.
- Prepare capital submissions and supporting materials for Enterprise Finance in line with enterprise planning standards.
Executive Reporting & Investment Committee Support
- Deliver monthly capital performance reviews, Investment Committee materials, and executive summaries for senior leadership.
- Support close deliverables in partnership with the CSS consolidations team.
Benefits Measurement & Portfolio Insights
- Build and maintain a consistent framework for measuring benefits realized from capital investments across the CSS portfolio.
- Develop multi-year ROI and value-to-cost reporting that connects capital deployment to business and financial outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to use AI, automation, and modern analytics tools to improve portfolio insight and reduce manual reporting effort.
Business Partnership
- Partner with DDAT Finance, Enterprise Finance, and CSS business leaders to improve business case quality, benefit phasing, and financial linkage.
- Serve as a trusted finance partner across a matrixed set of stakeholders, driving accountability on spend, benefits, and forecast accuracy.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a small team covering capital planning, reporting, and portfolio analytics.
- Build a culture of accountability, executive readiness, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive FP&A or Corporate Finance experience, with meaningful exposure to capital planning, portfolio governance, or technology finance.
- Proven ability to build executive-grade reporting and translate complex portfolio data into clear, decision-ready narratives.
- Strong track record influencing across matrixed organizations.
- Advanced proficiency with financial planning systems, Power BI or Tableau, and Excel-based financial modeling
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with technology investment governance, capitalization policy, and multi-year benefits or ROI frameworks.
- Demonstrated use of AI-enabled tools to modernize finance workflows.
- MBA or advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$100,000.00 - $231,540.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
