An Engine Test Engineer specializing in V8 engines combines foundational mechanical engineering principles with deep, specialized knowledge of high-performance Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), complex powertrain dynamics, and high-power data acquisition systems.

What you'll do...

The primary responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct Daily review of quality indicators – REDCRS, pulls and repairs data to respond to customer concerns.
  • Track concerns and review initial test results/data from all relevant test equipment, work with quality office on returned engines to review and analyze the defect in order determine root cause, and document improvement actions to test equipment.
  • Conduct monthly review of all critical test point variable trend charts. Verify test point trends and current limits to understand improvement/optimization opportunity. Investigate or notify correct personnel of any unusual trends. Document any system changes as per quality procedures.
  • Maintain completed Test Matrix for all test equipment. The matrix contains all current testing parameters/changes and should prioritize actions to address pass-thru items. For product changes, rerun defect testing for all affected components to verify containment.
  • Assist Production and Quality departments in determining the root cause(s) of the top test stand rejects in the Regress areas.
  • Lead reject resolution meetings in addressing test stand top FTT concerns.
  • Provide Regress areas with a comprehensive suggested repair list, repair procedures.
  • Assist Maintenance and Production in troubleshooting and repairing down test equipment. Investigate and implement corrective actions to address top availability issues. (I.E. faults and downtime).
  • Maintain cycle times on test equipment ensuring stands are running at or below authorized cycle time.
  • Support feasibility on product design changes and lead modifications and model code updates as required. Handle model additions, database changes, test program and sequence changes; implement modifications of new parameters and limits.
  • Assist technicians with calibration of test stand instrumentation per schedule.
  • Maintain 'Challenge Part' for EFTs and IPTs and all current calibration equipment.
  • Ensure daily testing on all stands is maintained as per DCP requirements.
  • Monitor part test status and assist Production with reaction to a rejected test.
  • Use test stand software to monitor test stand FTT and stand to stand correlation.
  • Devise and maintain a suggested repair and repair tree database for the operators on the floor.
  • Daily provide Engineering Supervisor with Final and Main Control Test FTT reports and status of top rejects prior to production meeting.
  • FTT data should be reviewed at the start-up and reported at close-out meetings with the teams daily.

You'll have...
 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

 

Experience:

  • 3+ years of hands-on powertrain testing experience, and demonstrates a deep technical understanding of V8-specific physics—including OHV/DOHC valvetrains, and forced induction systems.
  • Proficient mechanical diagnostic aptitude for post-test tear-downs and experience executing rigorous durability cycles are highly preferred.

Education: 

  • Master’s Degree: A B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline of study.

 

Experience:

  • Core Fundamentals: Mastery of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural mechanics, and internal combustion engine theory.
  • Configure and, manage advanced data acquisition (DAQ) systems, and analyze complex combustion, NVH, and thermal data.

The expected annual salary range for this Ford of Canada position is $ $74,000.00 - $124,000.00 and individuals may be eligible to participate in our Annual Compensation bonus program.


Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.
