Automation and Integration Engineer

Role Summary:

As Automation Integration Engineer, you will play a key role in connecting our production equipment, automation systems, and digital platforms as part of NOV’s Smart Factory transformation.

You will design, implement, and optimize automation and data-integration solutions that enable reliable, real-time visibility and control of manufacturing processes.
This is a hands-on and cross-disciplinary role where you will work closely with automation, IT/OT, MES, and production teams to bridge the gap between machine-level control and higher-level digital systems.

You will have the freedom and responsibility to lead technical integration tasks from concept to deployment, contribute ideas for process improvement, and grow into a key expert for digital manufacturing connectivity within NOV.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain automation systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI) to ensure stable and efficient operation of production lines.
  • Integrate automation with digital platforms – connect PLCs, sensors, and control systems to MES, historians, and data backbones using industrial communication standards (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet).
  • Lead retrofit and connectivity projects – bring legacy machines online and standardize signal collection and data tags.
  • Collaborate with IT/OT and data engineers to design robust architectures for data flow, buffering, and synchronization between shop-floor systems and enterprise applications.
  • Contribute to the design of the digital backbone, including naming conventions, historian structure, and standard interfaces.
  • Implement and validate new measurement and inspection technologies together with process and Smart Factory teams.
  • Document and standardize automation best practices for future scaling across factories.
  • Continuously explore new technologies in industrial automation, sensors, and connectivity, proposing innovations that enhance production capability and data transparency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, automation, mechatronic, electronic, or Software Engineering (or related field).
  • Solid experience in industrial automation projects, PLC/SCADA design, and commissioning.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens Step7 – Classic, TIA Portal, WinCC PLC/SCADA environments.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP).
  • Experience in instruments (analog devices, calibration) and or specialist systems are an advantage.
  • Familiarity with data systems such as historians, MES, or databases is a strong advantage.
  • Understanding cybersecurity principles, industrial networks,  reliability, and safety standards (segmentation, DMZ, user access) is an advantage.
  • Practical problem-solving mindset – able to troubleshoot, adapt, and deliver in production environments.
  • Collaborative and proactive personality with a strong desire to learn and contribute to digital transformation.
  • Advanced proficiency in English.
