This vacancy is for a GS-1801-12, Marine Investigator located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR ANCHORAGE INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION in JBER, Alaska. You will serve as a Marine Investigator and be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership to the Captain of the Port (COTP)/Officer in Charge Marine Inspection (OCMI) in all aspects of marine casualty investigations. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Investigating deaths, injuries, property loss and environmental damage to determine the associated human performance, equipment, and environmental causal factors and making critical safety recommendations to prevent recurrence. Issuing Notices of Violation and Letters of Warning. Investigating criminal and civil offenses for assessment of civil penalties or referral for criminal prosecution. Investigating merchant mariner negligence, misconduct, incompetence, and dangerous drug use leading to appropriate remedial MMC suspension or revocation. Includes the preparation and presentation of the government's case before an Administrative Law Judge. Issuing complaints, negotiating Settlement Agreements, processing Voluntary Surrenders and Deposits and Administrative Clemency applications. .
