In this position... 

This role involves the diagnosis and treatment of work-related illnesses and injuries of employees, the conduct of fitness-for-duty physical examinations, providing medical care in occupational injuries or disease cases, and the management of the company's internal employee-oriented medical activities with fairness and consistency in a timely manner. The role closely partners with the Health and Safety leadership to address complex medical and health issues. The role also supervises the maintenance of accurate documentation and the implementation of effective medical care in occupational disease cases. The role has expertise in interpreting and administering the company’s medical and health policies, analyzing trends, and providing guidance to further contribute to fostering a healthy organization devoid of injury and disease. The role has limited to full management authority for staffing, objectives and performance, discipline, pay decisions, personal and team development, and other personnel actions.

What you'll do...

  • Manages the company's internal employee-oriented medical activities including regular employee check-ups, managing the diagnosis and ongoing treatment of occupational disorders, providing medical care in industrial accidents or disease cases, pre-placement medical evaluations, and fitness-for-duty examinations, etc., with diligence and consistency in a timely manner. Ensures compliance with medical laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Works closely with the nursing staff to monitor volume for workload and emerging trends, serves as a primary point of contact for employee check-ups, diagnosis and treatment of work-related disorders.
  • Develops and monitors medical surveillance compliance rate, occupational illness/injury rate, absenteeism rate, incident response time, etc. to ensure efficient and effective delivery of healthcare. May assist in the development of internal reports for senior Health and Safety management, Occupational Safety, Industrial and Occupational Ergonomics, Physician, and Nursing teams.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of preventive medical and health policies and programs across facilities. Provides guidance and support to line managers and employees in addressing health and medical concerns, services/treatments offered at company health facilities, and health regulations.
  • Collaborates with Occupational Safety, Industrial and Occupational ergonomics, and other relevant teams to conduct facility inspections/ audits and resolve queries around occupational health and ergonomic assessments for projects. Analyzes job demands, repetitive movements, postures, likelihood of exposure to hazardous substances, and other systemic occupational hazards and highlights potential health risks.
  • Collaborates with Ford Workers Compensation team in effective case management for improved medical management outcomes.
  • Coordinates with specialists, health and safety teams, people leaders, and employees for appropriate implementation of Health and Wellness programs ensuring compliance and consistency to improve overall health and well-being.
  • Participates in the delivery of occupational health communications to employees in the organization including health check-up reminders, preventing heat-related illness, vaccination clinic announcements, etc. whilst working towards the organizational objective of optimal health for all employees.
  • Interprets and administers company policies and procedures related to conducting treatments at company medical facilities across locations. Ensures that clinical operating models, processes, and policies are efficient, effective, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant federal, state, and local laws/regulations.
  • Oversees the maintenance of accurate and confidential records and data related to the Physician function such as employee health history (including health assessments, health check-up results, and immunization records), training sessions (including workshops, seminars, and health education programs), and emergency response records. Prepares reports and analytics to monitor occupational injury and disease trends and identify areas for improvement or intervention.
  • May perform talent management responsibilities including performance management and mentoring.

You'll have...

  • Doctorate in Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited medical school.
  • Unrestricted medical license in State of Michigan
  • Basic life support (BLS) and AED certification
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in direct participant care in occupational conditions, work-related injuries, industrial accidents, or similar domains.
  • Board certification in at least one of the following: Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine

Even better, you may have...

  • Certification as a DOT medical examiner (NRCME certification) 

  • Experience with use of a slit lamp to perform a preliminary evaluation for eye injuries

This position is physician level 6 and ranges from $158,600-$262,000.     

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
