The Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) organization serves as American Express’ independent risk management function. GRC maintains the enterprise risk framework, provides oversight and challenge, and monitors key risks. By embedding risk discipline into strategy and operations, GRC enables responsible growth, innovation, and long-term value creation while protecting customers and shareholders.

As member of the EMEA Regional Financial Crime Compliance Organization based in Madrid, Spain the candidate is to be able to:

  • Assist with the coordination and execution of Financial Crimes Risk Management activities across regional market teams.
  • Supporting issue management activities, including tracking remediation plans, monitoring action progress, escalating delays, and ensuring timely closure of identified issues.
  • Support the issuance of the annual business-wide risk assessment, in line with Enterprise’s methodology, overseeing market deployment to ensure harmonization at Legal Entity / region level.
  • Support issuance of MLRO’s Annual Activity Report, in line with EBA guidelines on the role of the Compliance Officer.
  • Support issuance of the internal business control framework evaluation program.
  • Assist with Internal Audit, External Audit and Regulatory Examination activities by assisting requests, organizing documentation, tracking deliverables, and supporting remediation efforts.

 

  • University Degree in Law/Business Management/Political Science. Working knowledge of payment services and AML/CTF regulations will be a plus.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of compliance related work experience in an EU bank, financial institution and/or non-banking financial services industry.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of company operating processes within a multinational company such as Amex is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to build strong relationships with business partners, compliance stakeholders and other peers.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written is a must.
  • Problem solving and strategical mindset, good analytical skills.

 

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in Spain is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
